BD photographers in Dallas, Houston, or Austin?

Recommended Posts

Well said Jeremy! I went back and forth between Male and Female photographers. There are a lot of great photographers out there, both sexes. Remember, most photographers have a makeup/hair artist. They are there throughout the process. It's not like you are in a room alone with a guy, a bed and nothing to protect you but a thin strip of lace!! The girl with us helped me change and suggested poses and was a part of the entire process. You can also make it a session where there are other girls there etc etc etc. Basically, choose a photographer based on talent not based on sex. That is just silly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the vast majority of BD pics are NOT in the nude. At least that's from what I've seen. Maybe photogs aren't posting the nude ones? Either way, I'm 100% positive that you wear whatever you feel comfortable in...even if you have a longsleeve shirt on in every picture :)

I think this is #1 most important. I understand the "jealous guy" argument and it's valid for some people. And so is the personal preference of the bride. But I think you have to find someone you really like first, then see if you can make it work while taking into account gender, cost, schedule, location, etc.

And Kat's BD pics by Jeremy were outta-this-world gorgeous!! Plus, she had such a fantastic experience, she recommended him to me :)

I think my comment about a woman boudoir photographer was misunderstood. I was in no way implying that a female is the best choice. My point was for the woman to think about it when choosing a photographer. From my experience, I have had many clients that did not want my husband present during any portion of their session because they were unsure of how their husbands would feel later when presented with the pictures. So, that is a decision that only a client can make.

My reference to sunbathing in the nude was meant that if a guy didn't have a problem with other men seeing their girl in the nude then he shouldn't have a problem with the gender of their photographer regardless of what is or isn't worn. FYI, the majority of my clients do wear lingerie during their entire session but it is often sheer and revealing.

I think the first sentance of your post seemed quite biased and was a bit offputting. It didn't seem to come from an objective or helpful place, at least not to me.

The most important thing when choosing a boudoir photographer is to make sure you use a female photographer for your boudoir bridal session if you think your fiance's reaction might be less than enthusiastic if he finds out another man saw you in your undies or less.
I agree that the photographers gender should be considered if the gender would make a bride (or her finace) feel more comfortable.

As far as your husband being there... I wouldn't want him there and I am perfectly fine using a male photographer. Why would he be there...does he help with the shoot or something? If he's just an audience, I wouldn't want him or anyone else there for that matter.

I think there is a HUGE difference between lingerie and nude sunbathing. Lots of lingerie is only as revealing as a bathing suit.

I'm glad you re-posted to explain a little as this forum is about sharing ideas and points of view. Maybe the presentation is what created the misunderstanding.

About 20% of our clients (I went back and actually counted them) have said they wanted a female photographer for a variety of reasons but reactions by their husband/fiance if the photographer was a male was a common one. Other photographers may have different experiences.

I'm only expressing my own personal insights gained from talking with the girls. Therefore, I like to bring up this factor so others can either dismiss it as a non-issue or not. My original statement of "use a female photographer for your boudoir bridal session if you think your fiance's reaction might be less than enthusiastic" is still valid. If you think it might be a problem, ask if you can have a female photographer when you make your initial contact with a photographer. If you don't think it will be a problem, then move on down your mental checklist to your next set of personal considerations!

The other 80% of our clients don't care if my husband assists with the boudoir shoots or not. He's my 2nd shooter in the wedding and portrait side and works with me on the boudoir sessions. He's quite good with the posing and the girls get the benefit of a two different views. Visit our site for more info if anyone is confused as to why he's there.

I'm jumping in on this conversation. I really think it's 50/50. I've worked as both a model and a photographer.

From a modeling perspective I'd say I prefer a male photographer. There is this thing about women being judgmental that I hate. Most of us remember changing in dressing rooms or locker rooms in front of a whole bunch of women and feeling like they are tearing us apart or comparing us with their eyes? For me personally, I think that's why I prefer a male photographer for modeling. I feel like that males are less judgmental most of the time.

Now, as a female photographer, I can say that for women who are not professional models almost 75% of our clients request a female photographer. For them it's almost the opposite. Having a female photographer is less worrisome to them.

My fiance shoots probably more boudoir than I do over all, but most of them are professional models. The tables just seem to turn when it comes to brides and the general female public. I also think it might depend on where you live though, some states I think women are more conservative than others and in the less conservative places there probably isn't any sort of gender preference about photographers.

The other thing though is that the number of male photographers shooting boudoir is still much higher than the number of female photographers, which I think might be another reason why a lot of the boudoir photography is shot by males. I haven't seen any statistics on that, so I can't say for sure, but it's a thought.

Maybe we should put up some polls on this? I'd be curious what brides would say.
