cruise wedding while stopping in Puerto Rico...

Anyone know anything about getting married while stopped in Puerto Rico? Any advice, suggestions, stories about experiences? I did a search but nothing turned up. It's hard getting any info on this location!

Hello! We were on a Carnival cruise for our friend's wedding a few years ago. They were married in St. Thomas. Our first stop on the cruise was Puerto Rico. We were only there at night from like 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. What time of year are you looking at? We were there at the end of October. Your TA should be able to help with some of the wedding coordination. If your TA knows of a recommended resort to use a lot of times they come with WC services. Good luck!

There are no minimum stay requirements to marry in PR. You will need to apply for a marriage license in PR which does require your birth certificate, id, and blood tests. The tests can be done on the mainland (no more than 14 days prior) but will need to be certified by a PR physician. Many of the wedding planners in PR can arrange this for you. You cannot get the paperwork prior to your arrival so you may need a stop of at least a day. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Or just do the legal stuff at home before hand so that you are not taking time while in port worrying about them.

Yeah, the requirements don't sound fun at all. I'll figure out which option we'll go with when it's gets closer... We chose PR because of the hours the ship is in port. This way we can have our sunset ceremony, and a dinner reception. The ship makes you have a morning or an early wedding, and a 90 min. lunch reception, because the ships leave most ports at 4pm. That's not what I want AT ALL, so I did some research and found the ships pretty much only stay in PR, and Bermuda late.

 

I was just curious if anyone would have any recs on sites, or vendors or anything. I have my eye on the Ritz (some pics below)... but if anyone knows of a gorgeous place I should look into, let me know! I am from PR and you do have several options.

You could do a shorside wedding, but you'll have to go through the Wedding Experience, especially if you need help getting the marriage license. You do need blood tests and a clean bill of health from a physician if getting married on the island. No online option on this one! I am getting married in March 2010 and I have to go through the whole process as well...

On the other hand, the Old San Juan is the perfect place for any wedding. It is vintage, and romantic and you get the sunset and the ocean. You could check with some WCs here on the island, which you could probably find more info on by visiting Bodas Puerto Rico

You could also call the hotels around Old San Juan: El Convento Hotel, Sheraton Old San Juan, Caribe Hilton and the Normandie Hotel. But maybe talking to a WC might help you out more, as there are many, many places where the wedding could be held at (ie - Fort El Morro, San Cristobal, Cathedral...)
