Well, hello! Hoping for advice...

Hi Ladies (and gentlemen too!),

My name is Terra, I live just outside NYC. I am a concierge/event planner by trade, so I want to put as little planning as possible into my own wedding. Nuts, right?

My sweetheart and I just got engaged. We have vastly different family backgrounds. He is European, I am native of Maryland. We are in our early 30s and met by chance when I was visiting a girlfriend here in NY 2 years ago (I was living in Boston at the time). We now live together.

I am thinking Caribbean... somewhere relatively easy to get to. Maybe 30 or so people would come... but I have no idea really how many would travel to the islands for a wedding. How do you tastefully get a headcount before starting the planning?

I would prefer a location that isn't a wedding factory, but want something beautiful and laid back. I don't want to be a stressed out bride.

So, I am here to find out about other people's experience and see what I can learn. I appreciate any advice or help you all can provide.

That's all for now. Thanks everyone!

Terra

Welcome Terra! To be honest it is hard to get a count. When we first mentioned it everyone and their brother said they were going. Then we sent out invites and hardly anyone wanted to go. Now were two months out and we have 26 people going. Pick a place that you and FI want. And run with it.

I agree! This is exactly what is happening to me too. Choose your wedding based on want you and your FI want because in the end, it's just you and him that are in this relationship.

Welcome and Congrats!

I was married in Jamaica and loved it! There are lots of resorts to choose from and it is very easy to be legally married.

One thing to keep in mind is that these planners do this for a living so there really isn't much need to stress.
