Maternity Insurance?

So my FI and I are getting our bodies "baby ready" if you will. We've been on a very healthy food intake level for several weeks now, and are getting everything in order. We are getting married in January and are going to completely stop being "careful" after Mexico and see what happens. I have a pre-conception apt. With my FABULOUS obgyn on August 22nd, and a dentist apt. as well. Anyway, I've had my own health insurance for the past 4 years and called them up yesterday and asked them about adding maternity insurance. I was completely shocked that the most they will cover is $2,000, and they want you to have the plan atleast 1 year before you conceive. LAME! So I've been doing a bit of research and hunting and searching for an insurance company to switch to that isn't a complete fortune, but that has good coverage/deductibles. It's VERY over-whelming!smile41.gif I could switch to Keiser (that's what my office offers, and FI's office offers, BUT my doctor is outside of Keiser. (you must understand that my doctor is a complete God send, and I've waited 6 years to be able to make my pre-conception apt. with her. I mean she's 1 in a million. I could go on and on, but basically Keiser is out of the question. (Nothing at ALL against Keiser, I know they actually have a very good maternity program) Anyway, I'm wondering what all you mom's to be, or pre-mom's to be have for maternity insurance. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

I never had to look for extra insurance. I had Aetna through work and it covered 90% of everything. Before insurance our bills were $10000 and we had a perfectly healthy baby and I was only in the hospital for 24 hours. We paid our bills in full.... we ended up paying $800 out of pocket

What exact;y will that cover? I have never heard of such a thing! The only thing I have ever heard of is a shared risk plan with fertility treatments. So for example if you go through 3 rounds of IVF and don't deliver, you get 50% back.

I've read it's recommended 3-6 months before you would want to conceive. Well, they give you an exam/Pap and also draw your blood to make sure your levels are all where they should be. It's just to ensure that your body is healthy and ready for a baby. My FI is also visiting his doctor to get everything checked. They will compare our blood types and make sure they are "compatible" with eachother. They also can test you both for a number of genetic disorders to see if you carry the gene.

I was still on my dad's insurance when I got pregnant. He works for a local bank (or a country club owned by the bank and his paycheck comes from the bank). I only paid $20 for the first prenatal visit and like $100ish for a sonogram. My stay at the hospital was covered 100% including the epidural. My son was covered for the first 30 days. The insurance was blue cross/ care first.

I've heard Bank of America has really good health insurance and they have day care benefits and paid maternity leave... I might need a career change when I am looking to try for baby #2.

I have no idea what Maternity Insurance even is, so I can't help you at all. Does it cover your medical expenses while you are pregnant and when you have the baby?

We don't pay for any of those things here, so I don't even have an idea of what things cost.

Sorry, I wish I could help you out, actually in this situation I am glad I don't know the answers :)
