Las Caletas Brides ~ Post HERE! (THREAD CLOSED)

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I am a newbie that wants to get married in april 2008. Las Caletas is on top of my list although I have never been to Puerto Vallerta only Mayan Riviera. My hair stylist told me her client got married there and everyone got sick on the catamaran ride oversad.gif

The wedding pics belonging to Marisa looked beautiful that I cannot even think about having a wedding at a resort! I have looked at some sites on the Mayan Riviera but nothing looked as special as Las Caletas. Both wedding parties are from the Boston area so Mexico seem close and affordable eventhough we LOVE Maui. Can you girls steer me in the right direction?

Thanks so much!

Denise

Hi Denise! I am getting married at Las Caletas in June 07 - so of course I am a little bit baised! But I have only been to PV once during a college spring break, and Cancun once during a spring break. Neither really count if you ask me, since all I saw was the bars, "cheap" hotel, and the beach, and I have no idea where I even stayed!

I am a little nervous of the boat ride - maybe some of you girls that have already been married at Las Caletas can tell us if anyone got sick? I do plan on getting some motioin sickness meds and putting them in the OOT bags, but other than that - not sure what we can do! I will warn everyone about the boat ride in case there are any precautions they want to take themselves. We didn't want to get married at a resort either - so once we saw Las Caletas, we were sold! Let me know if you need any other help. You may also want to ask Nicole (the WC) how often people get sick - I honestly haven't heard of it happening much!

Hi Denise,

I am a Las Caletas wife (Jan.17/07) so I can give you our experiences...the boat ride their we had one guest who apparently got sick (I say apparently cause we went over earlier) but he was also a flatlander and had never been on a boat before! Most of our wedding group lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia so, we were all pretty use to water waves! The boat you go on is pretty large, but we did advise our flatlander guests to take motion sickness pills and for the most part...minus the one....everyone else did great! We were actually fully expecting everyone to get sick on the way home due to all the drinking but the trip back to PV is quicker and seemed less bumpy and everyone felt great arriving back into PV! Dont know if that helps at all or not but just thought I would give you our story!

Hi!

Thanks for the info! I posted my story on the newbie thread but to make a long story short, my in laws are giving my fi and I grief about having a destination wedding. Eventhough we orginally want somewhere in Hawaii and now decided on Mexico cause it more afforable and shorter flight time for everyone...we have been told Mexico is going to be too expensive for 2 of my future brother in laws and their family. Fi and I have already ruled every other option in the USA except Hawaii and think Mexico is it. I do not want to have a wedding and then a reception at home because it is not cost effective for us...after all it our day not theirs! rant.gif Sorry to vent. Anyway, I fell in love with Las Caletas due to the price...could I actually have a wedding for 10 people for the price that they quoted? Like under $1000? The most I want to spend is $3000 for 10 people. AM I CRAZY?

I honestly think that $3000 is doable for 10 people. I am not a Las Caletas bride but I am a PV bride. The good thing about having your wedding at Las Caletas means that your gueats can choose their own accomidations. PV offers great vacation packages. Your two FBIL's and thier fam can rent a condo and share a two bedroom if they think the cost will be high. Or have you thought of renting a villa and splitting the cost among 10 people?

I got really sea sick when I went to Las Caletas. There were probably 5-6 others who were too but that's a small percentage of people on the boat. I was told later that the water was a bit rough that day. I rarely get motion sickness so I didn't take my dramamine - my mistake - the crew offered it to everyone but I declined.

The PV Adventures boat crew was so awesome, they keep a barrel of water on board and used it immediately to wash down the areas where us sickies threw up, brought us bottled water & napkins, and kept checking on us. This may gross you out, but they even washed me down as I got sick so suddenly it was all over my shorts and shoes. Point is they deal with this often and were very attentive.

I've advised my guests to take the dramamine in their OOT bags just in case, unless someone is generally opposed to taking pills. That one hour ride is brutal when you're queasy every 10 minutes!!

Hi Everyone,

So now that I have the date booked it is time for all the questions to start!

First thing I am wondering about is music. Did anyone book the Trio? Are you just doing your own music. I really want to have the firedancers and I am wondering if that would be enough entertainment. Let me know what you think!

Also, is the catamaran really that bad? I have been on a few before that were party cruises.. didn't seem that bad for people, although there was alot of booze involved!

i haven't booked anything yet - i was actually planning on writing Nicole an email this week asking her when I should book stuff with her. i am thinking i'll want the mariachi band for the cocktail hour (and ceremony?) and then a DJ. i may also do the fire dancers - not sure yet.

i wasn't worried about the boat either, but now i am wondering if i should be! i've never been sick on anything like that - and i've taken my share of booze cruises and regular ol' cruises! i will provide something for people to cover motion sickness, but hopefully it isn't an issue!

for ladies that have already done this - does the boat provide the dramamine at no charge? that would be great if they did - one thing i don't have to worry about buying.

They provided dramamine at no charge when I was on the catamaran, but again I refused it and got sick. The majority of people on the boat did not get sick.

You should take it 30 minutes prior and the crew passed it out as we were pulling away from the dock, so I'm bringing my own to give my guests in advance, just in case.

I went to Caletas a few years ago and did take dramamine before we left. Make sure that it is the non-drowsy version. After taking that and having a cocktail I almost fell asleep. I really dont think that the boat ride was that bad. If you are focused on getting sick the entire time chances are you probablly will be. On the ride back I did not take dramamine and did not get sick. One trick that I have learned from getting car sick is to focus on the horizon. It has helped alot so my suggestion would be to sit in the front of the boat if possible.
