Packing Wedding Supplies

Recommended Posts

We packed our supplies in moving boxes and kept them in their original packaging since most stuff already came packed in boxes w/bubble wrap or popcorn...the airline put fragile stickers on the outside of the boxes and we had no damages...

I was planning on shipping but my resort charges by the day that they hold onto everything shipped for and will not hold it longer then 3 - 4 days which makes me nervous to send it so close to the date what if i make it there before all the stuff. So instead I bought some hard/plastic luggage (on sale) and will use bubble wrap and put all breakables in there.

How many boxes did they allow you to bring? Which airline did you fly on?

We are planning to SPREAD the LOVE!

Most of us are flying American, and we have all paid before the 1 bag limit, so I am divying up all of the stuff we plan to bring. Us and one couple are bringing down all of the OOT bag stuff since we'll be there first.

FI's grandmother is bringing down cake related stuff.

My dad and his wife are bringing down all reception goods.

MOH and BM are bringing down all the ceremony stuff.

This way, it's just a little extra for everyone. Anything breakable I will put in our carry-ons. We have a group of 4 in our little unit (Me, FI, son & daughter) We are paying full fare for all, so we are all going to bring our one carry on bag!

Everyone keeps telling me to send it - I don't trust to send anything to Mexico that needs to be signed for. I would go ballistic if my stuff didn't show up - so you know the saying......if you want something done right, do it yourself!

I am doing the same thing as Celina. My ATL guest have agreed to pack lightly in an effort to carry one bag for me. With AA you can put 2 bags on the plane if your traveling international. So everyone will carry a little something to make the load lighter. I also do not trust anything mailed to Mexico, due to the bad rep. I haven't heard ANY success stories.

I had thought about spreading the stuff between a few different people. Is AA charging for the first bag on international flights? I thought it didn't apply to international flights.

I'm not really much help I guess because I'm going to FedEx my box(es) of stuff to my WC's team in Maui ahead of time. There is no way I want to take all that stuff with me when I can go through ahead of time and pack it all up nicely and send it on it's merry way! I'll be less likely to forget something too if I can sit down and make a list of everything that I'm packing and not be stressed about it during travel. I guess Maui is a bit different than Mexico huh?

We flew on Alaska and could check two bags each without charge...we had two large suitcases and two large boxes filled with stuff...all came under 50 pounds (barely)...so we weren't charged...we also both carried on two small suitcases...it was pain with all that stuff, but I didn't trust shipping it...although many people have without issues...

We didn't really have much items, but we had a bag dedicated to all the items and my BM was kind enough to check it since her luggage policy did not require her to pay for additional bags before 2. We also packed some stuff in our bags and everything was okay. We wrapped things really well and just hoped for the best. I didn't too much trust shipping it there. If it weren't going to make it there, I wanted it to be because of something I did not based off of somebody else...lol. But like I said, we didn't have a whole lot of decorations, everything was mainly things for the OOT bags and some BM & GM stuff.

we flew 1st, so our baggage allowance was up to 3 checked bags. i think we each checked 2, tho, and had our carry-ons and my dress, and a purse (huge bag) for me, and dh's backpack. anything super important was a carry-on (bride stuff), and the breakable stuff wound up being wrapped up tightly, stuffed in clothing, and checked. i figured that anything oot was just extra, and worse case scenario, i bought new stuff in mexico. i did give some stuff to my parents and dh's parents to split the load, as we were staying for 2 weeks, and they only had to pack for 4-5 nights.
