Attention April & May 2008 Mexico brides

Recommended Posts

Did any of you or your guests get pretty sick while you were in Mexico for your wedding (or site visit)? We had several people stay in their rooms for days at a time because they were feeling so bad and couldn't leave the bathroom. We have been discussing the possibility of salmonella poisoning from infected tomatoes. I just wondered if anyone else had trouble as well.

Yes, one of our guests could barely leave the room the whole trip because he was so sick. We knew it was more then the usual Mexican sickness, since it lasted so long, and he tried all the usual remedies, which did not work!

We figured it may have been the sushi at the Japense restaurant - since he ate a tone of it the night before it all started.

Not that it's perfect information, but the FDA has cleared tomatoes from several states within Mexico as NOT being related to the salmonela outbreak. These include the following:

Aguascalientes, Baja California Norte, Baja California Sur (Cabo), Campeche, Colima, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Distrito Federal, Durango, Guanajuato, Guerrero (Acapulco), Hidalgo, México, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit (Puerto Vallarta), Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo (Cancun and Riviera Maya) , San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tobasco, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Yucatán, Zacatecas

All of our guests were fine. I was pretty careful the first while b/c I've had pretty severe food poisoning in Mexico before and stayed away from salads... but as of our wedding night onwards I ate pretty much everything including tomatoes.

I know we've been all over Mexico, the Caribbean and Nicaragua and have never gotten sick like we did at EDR. We had MAJOR diarrhea for 11 days, along with chills and fever at times. It got to the point where I could eat a banana (or anything else for that matter) and it would be completely through me in 9 minutes flat. I know, TMI, but it was unbelieveable. Talk about a colon cleanse, Colonix had nothing on this!

Ok, cool. I hadn't seen (or looked!) for this info yet. It must have been something else!
