Yes, but you're paying for his time right? He'll spend an hour taking photos of you, and then you aren't obligated to buy anything else from him if you don't like them... but you do get six photos included for that price as well... I think it's just his way of getting paid for his time! :)

Thanks for answering that I emailed him but never got a response. That sets my mind at ease a little bit becuase I was so worried about getting a photographer.elefant.gif

I agree again with jmhein, because if he shows up for free and you buy nothing you've wasted his time. So for 160$ he shows up and you get 6 photos and you can buy more for a costly fee per photo or go with one of the packages for more photos at a reasonable price.

I agree with Jmhein. I loved Michael. He did a great job even with our wedding stalling. We weren't charged the extra time. He is great to work with. I understand his point of view. He needs to make money too. Everyone goes off the bad rep and treats him like a bad guy even before they meet him. And you'd pay another photog for their time so you should pay him for his time too.

I really liked Michael and the job he did, and honestly we brought cash for him on purpose because paying a 5% fee was crazy to me. In fact, we didn't use credit cards down there for anything because when I called them to see if there were fees, it ranged anywhere from 3-6% for using it out of the country. Yes carrying cash might be riskier, but now-a-days, I would rather have a set amount of cash stolen from me then my credit card! When I first saw this thread I knew it was going to turn out badly for Michael, but the way I see it, the man spends 6 out of 7 days of the week working from 9 am to 10 pm. I'm sure he doesn't have a lot of patience for the problems he was having with the credit cards... And think of this... several gas stations in the US are now not taking credit cards for gas because the charges aren't being covered for by the money they make on gas... so this doesn't seem as absurd to me... Sorry for the long rant!

This is sorta related, sorta not... some of the shops in town charge you a 6-7% fee if you pay with a credit card to cover the fees the credit card company charges them. I think that is crazy. As a small business owner there are certain fees that are associated with running a business and i don't think it's right to tack that on to the customer. When i sell jewelry and people pay via paypal there are fees that I pay to Paypal but I don't add those fees onto what I charge the customer. That is simply part of my operating expenses.

As for Michael, I do however understand that if he is dealing with a lot of fraud that he has to make adjustments...

I agree... I don't relay the charges to my customers either, that's absurd! By the way if they are charging a 6% flat rate for each CC then they are thieving you because only 2 cards charge that rate... Amex and Discover, Visa and Mastercard are a very MINIMAL fee at most 3%... I think it's another way to rip off the customer which is RIDICULOUS!!!!!

I just got married last weekend and we used a credit card with Michael. He charged us a 5% fee but it was worth it to not have to carry that much cash!! I used CC with the hotel, DJ and Michael so I didn't have to carry much cash at all. But make sure to call your CC company and tell them you will be going out of the country.
