THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THE REVIEW!!! I am getting married at the RIU Palace Riveria Maya in just a few weeks!!!!!! We just got our email from the WC and I started to freak because it's coming up so soon and I feel like I have nothing done!!!

This review completely calms me - except for the part where you brought your own speakers...we simply cannot afford a DJ - and I'm worried I'll want to dance/have a smallish reception type thing...what are the speakers like that you broughthuh.gif? Computer speakers or an actual sound systemhuh.gif

I'm so glad I found your review - you don't even know!!! (well - actually you might wink.gif

I'm so glad I can help:) There were certainly people on this forum that helped me!

What restaurant is your reception inhuh.gif?? Cause if you have it in Bota Fogo and don't get music they don't have any to provide you during dinner - Just an FYI.

As for speakers, I brought a hometheatre sound system that I bought for about $600 from Bestbuy. It was expensive and it wasn't as smooth as having a dj but I rationalized that I could keep it once I got home. I divided the stereo up between my groups carryon luggage so nothing got broken.

I did this 'cause it was important to me to have a first dance etc. and I knew that I wasn't going out to any clubs after! You could still easily go to the Riu Tequila and party with your group after the dinner reception. I spoke with a couple brides who did this and had a great time (and drinks are still all-included).

I also saw a bride on here who just brought a $100 boom box and just played slow music on that. Or, you might even be able to rent one of the live music people mentioned in the extras for just an hour later in the evening. They'd arrive after dinner, you'd dance, it'd be just as good if not better.

Don't stress just get creative!

Does this mean they don't have a sound system in the Bota Fogo restuarant? That is the one that we picked...if I brought a CD could they play it?

Did they have a sound system available to you during the ceremony? One concern of mine is that no one will be able to hear us (especially if our ceremony is on the beach)

One other quick question - how much did you figure out/plan by email or did you do most of it at the meeting with the WC once you got to the hotel?

I just sent in my first email correspondence with the WC - and am waiting anxiously to hear back from her. I keep thinking of other things I wish I would have asked her though.

No, Bota Fogo does not have a sound system so they couldn't play your cdsad.gif If you get the dj he brings his own equipment. However at the ceremony they do have big speakers and a mic so people can hear you. Oh and they might be able to play your cd during the ceremony.

I think they send out the same standard email to every bride. I remember I chose the restaurant and ceremony site by email and everything else once I got there.

They responded to my emails really fast. If you don't get the quick response you'd like you could call but the connection might be horrible.

Don't worry... every bride I spoke to was thrilled with their wedding at that resort. Yours is going to awesome too!

YEAH!! So glad to read your review. We are getting married at the Riu RM Palace as well in Feb 09. We really loved the place when we did our site visits and everyone we talked to that was or had stayed there had glowing reviews. Thanks for the info it is always helpful to get first hand stories.

One question for you Jenn where did you find the maracas for $1? We really wanted to do that as well and if we could buy them there it would be great. Ok two questions, do you know if we were to order tumblers (coffee mug style) would we be able to ship them to the resort, would they accept them? We thought this would be a good idea to give to the guest for their drinks for the week, both eco-friendly (not so much plastic use) as well as keep those frozen drinks cold longer :)

Anyhow -looking forward to any other info from brides that are getting married at the Palace.

Thanks again and congrats-

Jaime
