"neighbor from hell" UPDATE!

Well it seems like things are getting better, but I cant believe that it had to come to this.

Geez. You would think he learned his lesson. If he has a problem with your fence ON YOUR PROPERTY then he needs to move his back one and a half feet so they don't butt up against each other. What an idiot.

Wow - I cant believe this - it's actually getting worse! - We walk out yesterday to begin working on the fence and he has posted no trespassing signs on his fence facing our yard. - We take pictures of them and start working.

During the day, a surveyor that he apparently called comes out and does a rough measurement. - I talked to the surveyor and he said the guy is crazy, and it looks like we are on our property, and thats what he will tell him. --

the guy comes home and barges out saying "Your still going to build this even though I told you it's off?" - I responded by telling him "actually, the surveyor you hired came out today and told us we were fine". - he responds "Oh he did did he... we will see about that" and walks away. - no less than 5 minutes later, the cops arrive...... my brother in law who is a state trooper is helping me build the fence, and assures me the cop cant do anything. - Sure enough, the cop tells the jackass it is a civil matter and there is nothing he can do.

-- My brother-in-law goes out and talks to the cop, and finds out the jackass was calling the station numerous times and was already told there is nothing that can be done, but he still insisted a cop come out.

.... thats the last we've heard of it -- I'm sure we will be getting a notice that we are being sued again......

I never knew my wife working in a law office would come in handy so much!

-- but this is really just absurd - its really troubling because we honestly feel like we are good, and nice people.... all our other neghibors love us - and we all cant stand this guy.

I dont want to be a pain in-the-ass neghibor - and I hate that I am being viewed as that. -- but this guy is not going to tell me where I can build a fence on my own property!

-- I think what really bothers me is this guys lack of ability to be reasonable, and neghiborly by approaching me and having a friendly conversation. - He never approached us about the dog (although he said he did in court) - and the only reason we knew he would complain about the fence is because that also came up in the last court case.

... My mother in-law tells me I should approach him and ask him if there is something we did to bother him......... but honestly at this point, I dont think this guy deserves me being nice to him. - I dont want to talk to him, he is completley unreasonable - and always thinks he is right.

what should I do now?

It sounds like he is just off his rocker. Is he really old? Is he on meds that's making him pyscho? Does he live alone?

Do you remember the friends episode (assuming you watched it) in which their downstairs neighbor would constantly complain they are too loud and would use a broom handle to bang on the roof of his apartment- hence their floor? Anyways, the old crotchy guy died with a broom in his hand.

So am I saying your neighbor should die- well not really. LOL More like he will get what's coming to him.

Wow, he sounds like a real a-hole. He just seems like he's a miserable man and is trying to make you just as miserable. I wouldn't even waste a breath trying to be nice to him. If there is nothing you are doing wrong with your fence building then let him cry wolf again. Pretty soom no one will listen to him anymore and he'll have to find someone else to bother.

wow this is so awful, he is obviously a very un happy person. I can't believe how much trouble he is going through to make you miserable. I agree with your MIL see what you can possibly do to talk him down from the ledge sort of thing

Yikes that's crazy. I doubt talking to him will do much good at this point.. he sounds like a miserable old man!
