I want to say thank you for all of the ideas, support, offers to help, etc. I will say that everyone on BDW has been more than generous, so I refuse to take any financial help from anyone! You all have done so much for us already. However, I may take you up on your offers of contacts, and ideas, and suggestions ... hopefully over the next couple of weeks we can come up with a good plan!

YOU ARE ALL THE BEST!!!!

Didn't Carrie and Samantha take some train from NY to Cali? Is that just the regular amtrack train?

I have no idea if there is a faster train, I didn't see anything when I searched for train options. But that doesn't mean I didn't miss something!

One option we are considering is Amtrak from Sacremento to Chicago, direct. Paul's whole family is in Chicago. Then we could head to Mpls from there via car, and even stay in Chicago a little while if we wanted to. I just want to be home as fast as possible though!

The doctor did mention giving her some oxygen for the flight - we didn't go into detail though. But it's something to think about.

Lots of fussing-I know.

Someone has to work on that tele-porting thing.

Good luck!

That's something to consider - having someone drive the RV back. It does seem like a bit much though! But it's an idea ...

There are one-way places, they just all seem booked for the summer! But I haven't given up yet! Paul looked it up on Map Quest or something, and it came up as 2100 miles ... yikes!

Anyway - he said gas is going to be mighty expensive, but let us know if Gwen can fly and he'll give pilot-guy in California a call.

Many people have questioned this, and it's a good point. I guess I assumed a smaller plane would fly lower, so the altitude issues wouldn't be as risky. But I guess I don't know that for sure!

I will ask the doctor tomorrow and get back to ya'll ... I really appreciate all of the effort everyone is making here!

At 34 weeks gestational age my sister, BIL, and niece took a medical jet to MN so she could be treated at Children's Hospital in Mnpls. I believe their insurance covered most of the cost.
I did call my insurance today - and basically they said they won't cover tranfering her from one medical facility that can meet her medical needs to another. Which makes sense I guess. The guy I spoke to was a complete ass, so I may call again just to see if I can get someone who will at least listen.

3. Speak to your employer. I know you are independant contractors - but were it not for them having you work OOT so late in your pregnancy you would not be stuck in CA with the baby. You and Paul have been working there for years, right? They may just kick you down some money and right now you can't afford not to ask...good luck!

We're really pretty self-managed ... it was my choice to travel, my company didn't even know I was traveling. I could have said no - it was totally up to me! We're a real small company (no HR department, for example), so I don't really think that's an option, unfortunately. I'm sure some co-workers would help on a friend level, but not in a corporate way.

Just got done with the entire thread...

I must say staying on the ground sounds the safest for little Gwen.

Hopefully you can find out if your company can pay for some of your return.

Keep us posted. You know we'll all do what we can to help you.

After reading your heart-breaking story, I remembered seeing a news piece not too long ago about donated flights and pilots' time to fly and did a quick Google. Here's what I came up with, Air Charity Network: Request a Flight

If Baby Gwen is allowed to fly, in general - you, Paul and Baby Gwen sound like candidates to me!

However, it does look like they network with limo companies and other modes of transportation - look under Partners and Patrons.

Other similar charities:

Angel Flight West

Corporate Angel Network - Home

I like the RV idea :) but if you guys had a couple of friends/family help with the driving that would make it less stressful. Would be nice if you could hire someone to do the driving so you and daddy can kick back and care for baby Gwen between oogling the scenery and sites. Try to plan for overnight stops near enough to bigger towns so you have medical facilities close by. But I bet your girl will be strong and ready to roll :)

Good luck!!!

We do have a couple family members that are ready and willing to fly out here and drive with us - and if we end up driving, you can bet we'll take them up on the offer!

Just read through this thread. What a difficult situation. Finally you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel to being able to go home, but now the big question is how! If one of those organizations is able to safely transport her back for you, I would go that route as they would be set up for transporting people that shouldn't be flying otherwise.

If that doesn't work out for you, I would do the RV. There is more room, it's definately more comfortable, and if there are other family and friends that are willing to help with the driving, more room for them.
