The Tides - Riviera Maya (aka Ikal del Mar)

Recommended Posts

hi carla-

i stayed at the tides (ikal) right when it switched over to "tides" in march of 2007 and it is amazing- the grounds are gorgeous and romantic and perfect for an intimate wedding. we actually inquired about having our wedding there but had a difficult time getting information for weddings. When we did get responses from them, there werent any set price sheets and they required 100% occupancy of the resort which was unrealistic for us. but staying at ikal was one of our favorite experiences in the area- and i highly recommend it, might be an amazing place to honeymoon...?

Thank you so much for the info. Sounds like it is off our list too, we are coming in by cruise ship.

Really disappointing since it was one of my top 2 locations right now....

Because we along with most of our guests will be coming in by ship (week long celebration on board this way elefant.gif). So there is no way we would ever fill the hotel to meet the 100% requirement you talked about.

The other one at the top of our list was the maroma but it also has a occupancy requirement, 80%. Well back to the drawing board. wink.gif

xcaret starts their ceremonies in the evening. We would leave port before the ceremony could even start. If they did them during the day they would be number one on my list!

The ana y jose beach club isn't really what we are looking for. Looks like of resort like and touristy, trying to stay as far away from that as possible.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions!! You give me some ideas to show my FH. wink.gif

This resort is mentioned in the magazine Brides July/August 2008. Just read it yesterday. Not really wedding specific, but here's what they said...

50 Sexiest Hotels 2008

The Tides, Riviera Maya, Mexico

Sexiest Beds

What's a great honeymoon without a great bed? The villas at this jungle-rimmed resort are decked out for romance (private plunge pools, outdoor showers), but the beds are the star of the show. After a day on the beach, meander down the tiki-torch-lit paths to your room, illuminated with candles. Strewn atop your king sized bed, under a canopy of white linen, are rose petals and a love peom- each of the thatched villas is named after a poet. Cuddle together under the 500-thread count sheets, fiddle with the bedside light dimmer, and draw the mosquito netting. Come morning, make a pillow-top picnic out of the Mexican coffee and breakfast breads left by your front door. Doubles from $585 low season; The Tides Riviera Maya Resort, a Luxury Playa Del Carmen Resort & Spa

Other Mexican resorts mentioned- Sexiest Pool: Las Ventanas Paraiso, Los Cabos; Sexiest Spa: Rosewood Mayakoba, Riviera Maya; Sexiest Alfresco Dining: Esperanza, Los Cabos; Sexiest Clifftop Rooms: Hotel Amuleto, Zihuatanejo, Mexico; Sexiest Lounge Chairs: Paraiso de la Bonita, Riviera Maya;

I can't believe how many resorts in Mexico were chosen! They were choesn from resorts all over the world. Ok, sorry for hijacking your thread.hijacked.gifcheesy.gif

fyi ana y jose isn't a resort . . they don't even have rooms at the beach club. Its a beach restaurant. Because it isn't a hotel at all they don't have a room requirement. Instead, however, they charge 4000 USD to have a private wedding. I think this is really unfair because if you don't pay it (in addition to food and beverage) then other guests will be eating in the same restuarant as you. Still, I am probably going to end up paying it because I loved the space when I visited and I don't want to be responsible for filling a hotel. You should check it out on tulumweddings.com

I'm looking at booking my wedding at The Tides, and I received all information immediately via internet. You can have your wedding there without staying there. You DO NOT need to have any certain number of occupancy whatsoever. I will be more than happy to forward you or anyone information that I have as it was updated this ummer, and they have been very respondent to all my emails. Note, you will have to manage all details yourself or through your own wedding coordinator, as they do not have an on-site coordinator, but they do have a Service Coordinator who will assist you with your menus, bar packages, and set-up.
