Question for fellow black brides Re: hair plans

Yeah I don't wair extensions either. I say you do a trial run with one of the beauticians and if you don't like it, just do something simple and elegant yourself. I have physically grown my hair out more without going to the shop (it's been at least 3 years.) I have really trained my hair, and if you are like me...no matter who does your hair, you can probably make it look better... So try out some styles that you can duplicate and use that as your back up plan.

Hi ladies. I just joined the site and this topic is exactly what I've been looking for. I do wear a weave and I'm pretty happy with it. A couple of years back, I cut my hair thinking I wanted something different. Now I wish I would have kept it long so that's why I'm back to the weave. Hopefully, my hair will grow back soon enough.

Karahmia, what do you suggest I have my stylist do before I leave if I want a simple bun or pincurls for the wedding? You seem to have a lot of experience based on your post. I don't want to do much before I leave if the stylist in Jamiaca is just going to wash it out.

I am also curious about how the clip-ons work. I'm sure the clip-ons would be great if my hair gets wet.

BTW, what did you ladies do about getting your hair wet? I don't want to go to JA for a week and not get into the water!

I know that Kay726 went to Sandals Dunn's River but I would appreciate any advise in this area. Thanks!

Hi OMC and welcome3.gif to the forum!

I would suggest visiting your stylist before you go and making sure your weave is in order. You know? Neat edges, tighten etc. Then when you get to Jamaica you can go to the stylist and everything is in order and ready to go. I wouldn't have them wash it, too much risk that something could get messed up, especially if you wear a glue in. By the way...which do you wear? If it's a glue in make sure to bring extra glue in case there are any mishaps, but if you can you should go with a sew in. Way more versatility as far as getting it wet and less work to get it dry and styled again.

Have you decided on a location? If so, I would get in touch with the salon in advance to see what they charge as well as send them photos of what you would like to see if they can do it. I don't think they should have a problem executing what you are looking for as both are pretty classic and easy to execute.

The other option depending on how soon you'll marry after arriving in Jamaica is to have your stylist do it and then wrap it up so it keeps, but I would say that's more appropriate for something more elaborate.

As far a swimming goes I woldn't do it until after the wedding if you have a glue in since you know what will happen but if you have a sewn in go for it! All you need is a pressing comb or a flat iron to get things in order again.

I hope this helps! For clip in advice I would PM BarefootBride. The hair she bought looks wonderful and is another great option if you want more versatility.

Let me know if you need more help or have other questions!

Thanks for the advice Karahmia. I usually wear sew-in but she took it out this last time and used the glue-in. She said she didn't want to do anything so permanent so close to the time for me to leave for JA. We're going to Sandals Dunn's River so I'll contact the salon there to find out what they can do. The time is winding down so I better get things in order.

I am catching this thread so, so late! Just had to say I LOVE your eye make-up! I think you're off on your wedding as I type this, so hopefully you'll see it sometime after you get back! I know you're looking gorgeous on your day! ;o)

Okay...so I am back and thanks Starryeyedbride2b... I love makeup so much and yes it did look awesome the day of. I was so relaxed that I did my moms and 2 of my BMs makeup. Besides the EXTRA sweating, everything went well. And yeah Fauryn is good...I'm at work now, but it's this other girl on youtube who is FIERCE when it comes to makeup. I'm actually trying to get hired to the MAC that just opened here in my city, so wish me luck.

OMC, as far as your hair goes... I would also do a sew in. I don't have a weave or wear them, but the one of the times I did wear a weave a while back, I had the sew in and it did okay when water hit it. Of course it won't look as fresh as when you first get it, but like Karahmia says...don't get it wet til after the wedding. That wouldn't have worked for me though because we all did activities like the Dunn's River Falls before the wedding since everyone was leaving the morning after the wedding. I just got a fresh relaxer before I went and wore my hair. After I straightened it for the wedding, I wore it in a ponytail or in my wavy afro for the remainder of the trip... After the wedding, it doesn't matter how your hair looks...lol. I hope this helps... If at all, I would suggest wearing your real hair...if that is an option...?

ButlerGirl08, looks like you had a great time. Congrats! I cut my hair a couple years back and it's still in that transition stage where it's too short and too long to do much with it. My stylist put in a ponytail this past weekend. She told me to play around with it so I can learn how to handle it before the big day. If this trial run doesn't work out, I'm just going to get braids and put them up for the ceremony. This whole process has me wishing I had never cut my hair but what can I do?
