My Monogram Cake Topper - NEED SERIOUS HELP!

Recommended Posts

Sounds like you just used too much glue maybe? I used the same glue as you and it was fine.. I just had to come up with a technique. You have tweezers right? I put a blob of glue onto an old towel and dipped the back of the crystal before putting on my topper.. I set out like 20 various crystals beforehand so I could grab and dip, grab and dip. When the glue dries, it dries clear AND you can grab part of it with your tweezers and pull the extra off. (like glue boogers/rubber cement). The glue is suppose to come up on the sides of the crystals to hold them tight, just not too much... then when you're all done, buff the top of your crystals to make them all shiny. I removes any dullness that extra glue may have caused.

Best of luck! I went to target and they gave me a needle applicator but it was too difficult to get the glue into it and then out again. Tell them you only need a few without the needle, otherwise you need a prescription.

The other girls had great suggestions too.

I'm up in Canada and can get the hypo-cement glue at a couple of different craft stores, but it is more specialized, so I'm not totally sure you'll be able to find it. We have it at Michael's (sometimes) and at a beading jewellery store I shop at sometimes (Sassy Bead). Plus, you can buy it online in lots of stores... but I don't know if you want to wait for shipped goods.

My bet would be to go with the hypo-cement. I find it easier for dealing with crystals. But it doesn't come up on the edges of the crystals and "hug" them. That's more like what Goop (another more easily found glue) does. Hypo cement dries really quickly and is crazy strong. Goop is more glue-y and when it dries is more like boogers, like one of the other girls described :)

If you still end up with spaces, I'd try to fill them with what one of the girls suggested - either sugar crystals or coloured sand or something like that.

Good luck!

Andrea

Agape, "Hypo Cement/glue" Can you get that in a regular craft store? The needlepoint applicator is sounding like just what I need!
I get it at Hobby Lobby on the aisle with the jewelry supplies. Bead stores usually carry it too.

Thank you so much guys... I plan to try out the 'hypo-cement.' The E9000 (or whatever it's called) DOES have that 'booger-effect' - as someone else perfectly described it! LOL

I will (of course!) post the pictures as to how it turns out! Of course, you might (and will!) be hearing from me, as and when problems develope! =)
