I'm so sorry. I have two friends both try this. One lives far away and I had to call the police to get to him. And my best girl friend I drove her to the ER. It's no fun. I try to call them every day. Or send cards to let them know that I'm there. I'm so sorry.

Your friend is very lucky to have you to support her. She is in good hands now that she is in the hospital, and hopefully she will find some good counseling. Hang in there, I know it can't be easy. Best of luck and know that there are a lof of us here that are thinking of you!

Thanks for the suggestion. Her mom said that she found she really liked receiving mail and email.
I've emailed a few times and I'm putting together a 'care' package for her with a few magazines, lip balm, etc. Snail mail is always fun to receive.

She does have a good support system. That's why it's so weird. sad.gif

I haven't talked to her yet. I hope she's taking some extra time in the hospital.

Oh my God, Danielle. That's just too sad for words sad.gif

I know that it's always when it seems that things are getting better that this kind fo thing usually happens.
It's definitely post-partum, but it's mixed with bi-polar, that she has been struggling with for years.

I wish she'd stay on the pills while pregnant, but I know they aren't proven to be totally safe. I still wish she had. Maybe she would have kept more stable.

I'm so worried for her kids too.

I definately feel for you & her family right now!
The care package is a really great idea - everybody loves getting them!!
What if you added a couple of pictures for her.. like of you together a favourite vacation spot! Maybe even think of a great memory & write it down for her so she can re-live the moment in her head. Might bring a smile to her face!

Hang in there! We're all here when you need us! *BIG HUGS*

I know, it's totally true. I have another friend who really hit rock bottom and ended up getting a PhD and is now great - healthy, exercising, marriage is better, has a great job, etc. She couldn't even talk on the phone at one point.

I hope she's ok worried2.gif

I suffered a serious mental condition - it is possible to change you life for the good (or bad) but it's up to the individual.

You are a good friends and no doubt you care greatly for your friend. Just be there when needed but remember its a medical condition, all you can possibly offer is your companionship.

I wish you all the best

I don't think you can explain mental illness, long term or short term, if it is ppd it can so easily go unnoticed no matter how great your support system is. One of my best friends killed himself leaving behind 3 young daughters, we had no clue how bad he was and we were with him almost everyday, Kenda also lost her 15 year old friend last year because he felt this was his only way out. Proffessional help is needed I really hope her family pushes for this, because if she tries again next time she may not be so lucky, most women usually try more then once before they actually succeed unlike men who succeed on the first try.

I send big hugs to you, I know how painful and confusing it is when someone you loves is going through thisgrouphug.gif
