? For Those Who Have Birthdays Around Christmas/NYE

So today I was thinking about Aiden's 1st birthday (yeah, still some months off, but I'm a planner!). His birthday is December 30th. Smack in the middle of Christmas and New Year's Eve. Poor thing! I remember my friend always telling me how she got cheated out of gifts because of her Jan 2nd bday.

But anyway, I was wondering more about birthday parties. If you have a birthday (or a child with a birthday) around this time, did you have birthday parties growing up? How did that work?

My concerns are that I'm wondering if Aiden will always have crappy birthday parties. I mean I'm sure family will come, that's a given. But I wonder if friends would be able to make it because it is such a busy time of the year. Especially when he's younger. I only had one birthday party growing up so I sort of always dreamed of being able to do a birthday party each year for my kids (at least while they are younger), now I'm wondering if that's going to be a bust.

LOL. I have too much time on my hands today!

my bday is december 23. i didn't have too many parties growing up because the timing was always bad, so we saved the parties for the more important years. and the ones i did have were always the week before. and yes, you get screwed out of presents... i wish i had a better experience to tell ya..

oh I would imagine his little friends will be able to come...I say go for it and throw big fun parties for the little guy!

Jessica, I think you can make his Birthday special regardless of what time of year it is. Yeah the timing isn't the greatest, my birthday is in late January and I always had combined gifts, but as a parent I would assume you have the ability to make it very special for him regardless of the time of year.

I'm the 28th.... Let me tell it really does suck to be a Christmas baby! I didn't really have many parties growing up either....bad timing. And while growing up people ALWAYS forgot my birthday (not my parents) and I always got the old birthday/Christmas present wrapped in Christmas paper. And you really can't blame people it's a busy time of the year but it would have been nice to have been given separate gifts and in the appropriate paper! But if you set the standard now then it probably won't happen.

My parents gave me a choice when I was 10 as to whether I wanted to celebrate my birthday on my birthday or at Thanksgiving instead....and I choose my birthday after all it's my birthday! My dad is also a Christmas baby so he kinda understood....

My daughters birthday is also December 30th and it sucks! Especially because every kid in our families has their birthdays at the end of december and the beginning of january.

I usually wait for the weekend following her birthday to have a party because its easier, New Years is over, etc...

I've already vowed to give him separate bday gifts (wrapped in bday paper!) so hopefully I can stick to that.

Jeez, so obvious Jess!

FI's b-day is on December 19th and he always got shafted out of parties and gifts. It really sucks. I always make a big deal about this b-day to make up for all those years. I would have it in early december so that this way the little kids can come and it will almost be like a holiday party. You can make it as big a deal as you want and this way he won't feel like he doesn't get something special for his b-day.

My family isn't big bday people. My mom didn't have big parties for us growing up, but usually it got lumped in with a holiday. My bday is in Oct and we wouldn't see my extended family until Thanksgiving so we would always celebrate then. It sucked. I never had the bday parties with friends and stuff. Just family.

I think you can still make it special any time of the year.
