Our wedding guests are leaving from all over Canada, and Sunquest keeps changing our departure dates. Right now, we [as in the bride and groom] leave on Sunday the 8th and were hoping to get married on the Thursday the 12th because some of our guests are leaving on the Saturday.

Well, it looks like we have to be there 4 full days prior to the wedding, so that means then the wedding needs to be on the Friday, which is the 13th. Plus, half of our guests, including the photographer who was planning a next day trash the dress, will be leaving on the Saturday.

I don't know what to do- who wants to leave the day right after the wedding?

I'm just throwing this idea out here, because I am having such a hard time getting information out of the wedding co-ordinator, but if I got married at home before I left, would we still have to wait the 4 full days in Mexico?

Nope, you could show up an hour before and not have to worry about the legalities. It just a symbolic ceremony (although to those of us that went this route, it was still the real deal.)

As for a Friday the 13th wedding, I'm not a superstitious person. It wouldn't bother me to get married on that day. It would actually be kind of cool.

You have to be there a couple days before if you're getting legally married there.

We are doing the civil ceremony here so we don't have to deal with all of that (and also the wedding package is about $630 cheaper, can you believe it!?)

I would just recommend taht you get travel insurance so they can't keep changing/cancelling flights.

Good luck!

My aunt and cousin were both married on Friday the 13th. I think it would be a cool date... but agree that with guests/photog leaving Saturday it might not be ideal.

I know for Jamaica that if you are married ahead of time in the states... you can have a symbolic ceremony which doesn't require you to be there a certain amount of time early. Plus its usually cheaper! (and if I'm thinking right... in Mexico you would also need a blood test for the legal ceremony... )

We will still count our Jamaica wedding as our real wedding though.

I met my husband on a Friday the 13th - so that's a lucky day for me!!! :)

If you want to get married before going to Mexico - it's SUPER easy - been there done that, I can even give you the Marriage Commissioner's name and phone number! - and you can get married on whatever day you want in Mexico!!!

:)

Let me know if you need more info!

Egyptians at the time of the pharoahs considered 13 lucky, because they believed life unfolded in 12 stages, and that there was a 13th stage-the afterlife-beyond...so it can't be all bad...13 is a lucky number in a lot of cultures...

Linds,

I'm sure that you probably heard from Darlene the panick attack that the Barcelo has just put us through. Luckily though, the "right" wedding co-ordinator called and fixed it all up.
Is this what you did though? Got married here first then done there? Does this basically mean then that you don't have to go through all that legal stuff? I need to do some research and see what package is offered through the Barcelo.

Heather- tons of brides have gotten married before or after to save money- me included. There are a lot of threads on it, but here's one to get you started.

I'm so thankful we got married before- I hate the idea of having to do a "class" (I'm not sure if this is just a Jalisco requirement), blood tests and several hundreds of dollars more. It was just WAY easier to do it before we left and have the "real" ceremony there.
