OMG now I want to do this!!! It's such a great idea and sounds sooo easy!!!!

 

Quick question, Sarah, did you use them as peoples place cards? if so, did you put their names and table numbers on them?

Thank you so much for posting this topic. I was actually looking for personalized candles and only could find one option. I ordered samples of it and the candle is extremely tiny about one inch in diameter. What was interesting about the candle is that it looked like a piece of paper was burned into the candle. I was trying to figure out how I could make something like this myself on bigger candles. This posting came at a perfect time for me and it is extremely helpful.

Did you use a heat gun? I tried to make one last night using my blowdrier, but I don't think it gets hot enough LOL

thanks! printing on the tissue paper is really easy, you just have to make sure it gets very taught so it doesnt rip, because sometimes when it goes through the inkjet the way the ink head drags back and forth and the little rubber rollers that move to feed the paper can tear the tissue paper if its not attached securely. i used masking tape because i found it was easier to reposition if i made a mistake

you cant use a hairdryer. you need to use a heat embossing gun like for embossing rubber stamps. you can get them at any craft store - i got mine at papersource and paid about $22 for it. the heat from hairdryer is nowhere near as hot as it needs to be to get the tissue to meld into the wax. be careful to not burn yourself with the heat embossing gun, it gets really really hot!

Did you use the wax paper over the tissue? Or did you just use the tissue paper?

I wanted to play with what I had in the house, I didn't think the blow dryer would work, but it was worth a shot. The pic stuck to the candel, but then the corner started coming up and it didn't look half as good as yours

 

I actually just ordered a heat gun from Amazon...$35 free shipping and comes with some accessories and a case to keep it in. I figured it'd also be good to have for when I shrink wrap stuff (which is the ONLY reason I own a blowdryer LOL and it was a pain to do with the blowdryer).

 

Plus, I think it's awesome to be able to put pics on candels so I'm sure I'll get my use otu of it

actually no, i did not use the wax paper! i forgot that step but doing it without the wax paper produced a decent result as you can see from my photos. ill have to try again with wax paper this weekend coming up and let you know if theres a noticeable difference.

I am about to start this project...I have Sarah's directions from the first post but still have 2 questions for you Sarah or anyone else who has done this since...

 

What size candles did you use? (2x3 / 3x3 / larger?)

 

What size did you make your name/image?
