Wedding Dress Prices?

Recommended Posts

I voted for $1000-$2000. It took me a while to find what I wanted and it took me a day or so to really think about spending so much. But I was/am really picky about dresses, I didn't want something too big or heavy since we are having a beach wedding. So once I found my dress I had to have it, even though it was really out of my price range the sales lady sold me the dress I tried on at a really good discount so I guess the $1500 was a steal!

Okay, I originally figured I'd be spending around $800-$1000 for my dress.

I ended up getting my dress last Friday at a small local bridal shop.

I bought a store sample off their "clearance" rack.

But... it was a $750 dress that I got for $99.00!!

OMG I just couldn't believe it, was such a great deal that I just couldn't pass it up. It was even the right size, will need a few alterations for the bust since I'm all 'smushed' in,and the waist needs to be taken up a bit because I have a short waist, but other than that...it works! Guess it was meant to be. My dress is a Mori Lee style #2812, was from their Spring 2007 collection, so that's why it was on sale.

It's not very 'beachy' looking like I thought I wanted, but it's not super heavy either. It's a tadbit "poufy", but not too much. If I could figure out how to get the pic on here from the website I would but I must be a computer idiot about this because I've tried a ton of times with no luck. So, when I get a better pic of myself in it I will.

stltk, I saw the picture of your gown on the "show us your dress" thread, and it's really beautiful!...I don't think I'm going to be able to go w/a strapless gown, and your gown looks like it would be very flattering in the top area for those who can't do strapless..just gorgeous!

Thanks PenMarie, you are too sweet! Nope, it's not strapless & originally I thought I would go that route. But, it's probablya good thing anyway since I am kinda big on top and would be "babysitting" the top of my dress all day making sure it was pulled up & stuff. So, my dress has straps, just worked out that way.

Wow! I voted for $300-$600 for my "dress to be" price range. I personally feel as though it's a dress most of us will only be wearing on this one day one occasion. Others have receptions and other parts of the wedding to wear it to. That's great to get that much wear out of the dress, especially if you're going to be wearing it 3 times. If you're only going to be wearing it once, I would suggest spending no more than $600 if you have a budget to stick to.

I swore I wouldn't spend over a grand on mind but when I tried that sucker on I couldn't take it off. At all. And still, when I try it on, I cannot take it off. So I knwo it's meant for me. LOL. I mean, yes it's more than I wanted to spend, but in the end I'm in love with it.

Nan is making main - so designers will me myself, nan and mum

Cost - just fabric and lots of flowers for nan!

I can buy dress if I want but it will mean more to me to have her make it

I'm thinking of buying a cheap dress for TTD - FI not happy though!

Originally I really wanted to stay under $600, but I was prepared to go up to 1000 with alterations. Once I started looking, I couldn't find a single dress under 600, except for the poofy clearance dresses - just not my style. Then I decided I really wanted a lace dress, which then became really tough to find in a reasonable price range.

I ended up picking my dress which is 700 plus tax (13% in ontario) = a grand total of about $800, so with alterations, I hit my budget and I love my dress.

And I'm wearing it again at the AHR so it will be worn twice which is how I justify spending more than I originally planned.
