FI has super weird measurments-can't find a suit!

Recommended Posts

Okay- we have been to Mens Wearhouse, S&K Wearhouse, Macys, Nordstroms, and JCPenny..... My FI, evidently, has weirdly long arms -which worked out great when he was playing bball, but sucks when it comes to suits. His suit size is a 42 xtra long-- he is 6'5"- 6'6" -and weighs 185-195 (We have his weight gainer and my slim fast in the pantry- nice!), so the "big and tall" stuff is too big for him bc of his slender frame... We've been told that with light colored or tan suits they can't take out the hem in the sleeves bc it will show-- so it looks like even though he wants a tan colored suit, we might have to get a dark one... Did anyone have a FI with "weird" measurements-- or does anyone have any ideas!??!? Thanks for any help!!

I have no advice but I do know where youre comming from. We went everywhere from the mens warehouse to banana republic to jcrew and couldnt find a suit that FI thought looked right or fit right. He has an athletic build, meaning his chest and shoulders are much bigger than the rest of his body. So either the jacket is to tight all up top and then fits in the waist or the jacke fits up top but is swimming on him everywhere else. We are still on the hunt. I loved the banana suit but he hated it I'm trying to push him in that direction but I doubt I'll win this one. Good luck! I think we have spent more time looking for his suit than I did finding my dress.

I completely understand. FYI Big & Tall lies--You can be big or tall but not both. We have a terrible time finding pants. He needs a 35 inseam but you can only have them custom made! 36 usually don't come in a waist size over 46! FI is almost 6'5" and currently 375, he'd like to be smaller for the wedding. We're looking at a 52- XL However, because he played football for so long, one arm is longer than the other! Not noticeably until he puts on a jacket and sticks his arms out. We'll get his suit at Men's Warehouse and they'll only have to lengthen one arm! LOL! His suit is tan and they didn't say it would be a problem...

Shannon I have this problem with my FI. His arms are ridiculously long but his chest isnt big. Why cant a guy be tall... not big? FI and I are trying to upgrade his wardrobe and all of the big and tall stuff are ugly. I found this company that sells very fashionable clothing for TALL men. No suits though. Alto Clothing : Fashionable clothes exclusively for the tall man

I think you will have to get his suit made.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wanted to give an update- we have the FI's suit! It's a Calvin Klein tan linen suit-- it just came out a few weeks ago for the spring season-- from Men's Wearhouse. They had a 42 extra long (which was so hard to find!)- unfortunately, it was pretty expensive, but the FI's mom is helping with some of the cost. YAH! Something to mark off list!!

Yay! I'm so happy it worked out for you. Bummer it cost more... but at least its now one less thing (and a very important one at that) to worry about!
