Help me find cake inspiration

Recommended Posts

The shop is a bit "old school" so we didn't get an option but the cakes they had in the shop looked great frosted! I am very excited to see it but nervous because my BIL is picking it up! Our site is about 25 miles away so they won't deliever it and it's not a huge cake so he can do it. Pray for him :) and me that I don't kick his butt if he does something.

As for Alyssa's comment about fondant tasting terrible, you have had bad fondant. I am not a fondant fan, its too sweet for me, but I have some amazing fondant, it all depends on the quality and people love mine. Again, its too sweet for me, but it does taste good. I also use a chocolate fondant and a white chocolate fondant for those who want something different. Just something to keep in mind.
Jules,

my comment is my personal opinion and is not based on only having fondant 1 or 2 times. i have had some of the best fondant out there, from Sylia Weinstock cakes to Four Seasons pastry chefs to your general wedding cake with fondant. i do agree that you can make some of the most beautiful cake designs with fondant so i understand why it is used but IMHO all of it tastes thick, yucky, super sweet and kind of fake.

OMG!!! You are SO right!! I tasted fondant icing not too long ago to decide if I wanted that kind of icing and I almost spit it out right then and there!!! It tasted like play-dough!

not necessarily! just because you don't like the taste, doesn't mean you had some "bad" stuff! i don't like it either, it's just a personal preference. i think for me it's a texture thing, but whatever it is, I've never been a huge fan.

I SO wish I was going to be in town to crash your wedding - that sounds so yummy! Where are you getting your cake at again, I forgot.

Hey, I agree with all of you, I am not a fondant fan although I prefer to use it on all my cakes because it looks amazing. I for one make it much thinner than most places do, and I use one of the best tasting fondants around. I have had the kind that tastes like playdoh and its just not edible, but I do use a really good one. So, I was not taking offence to what you said, I was just saying there are many different kinds of fondant, some that are not edible and some that taste much better. I personally pick it off my cake when I eat it, but I also put lots and lots of buttercream underneath it, so its just the thin fondant layer that is left on my plate :)

I've never had fondant (my Mom makes cakes as a PT job) but she always makes her own icing, which is amazing. Fondant does look pretty -- but I've never itched to try it b/c it also looks like it wouldn't be very good, to me anyway. lol
