Hurricanes

For us girls getting married in 09, was just curious if anyone knew what would happen if there was a hurricane in say oct...would they have the place rebuilt in time?? Anyone ask their TA about this??

I hadn't even thought of that! It just seems the last hurricane season wasn't bad at all, but who knows with all the global warming. From my experience, I went to Cancun 2 years ago and the hotel I was originally supposed to stay at was damaged by a hurricane the week before. They just moved the guests to different hotels in the area. I would hope they have some kind of contigency plans for these things, esp if there are weddings taking place.

Oh gosh, one more thing to think about. smile35.gif

A lot of us went through this with Hurricane Dean... I'm sure it depends on the resort (I was not a ROR bride), but my resort actually was closed for Sept/Oct rebuilding. A lot of the resorts foliage/flowers had been ruined, but it was still absolutely gorgeous when we arrived in January. I wouldn't worry about it now. Jamaicans live with hurricanes, and I'm sure the resort will be fantastic when you get there.

Wow, I didn't realize that they were able to re-build that quickly. Dean was a major hurricane and to rebuild that fast makes me feel lots better.
Thanks for your comments :)

I think that a lot of the island is not really hurricane proof, but the resorts build back pretty quickly. I would not let it worry you. I would be more worried to be getting married during hurricane season (we had our honeymoon there in late July and the weather was great)

Yeah I'm freaking out about this a bit. The news reported this week that "they" have predicted a higher than usual hurricane season this year. Apparently it is a "La Nina" year and they seem to go together. However Jamaica is not usually hit (knocking wood really hard right now!). We'll just have to wait and see, and buy good travel insurance!

I got married in August and hurricain Dean came roaring through the DR the second last day of our vacation, it was scary, especially since I had all of my kids with me, one who is in a wheelchair. We got through it and 4 hours later it was sunny, still and surreal that we had just been hit by a hurricain. The resorts go into lock down mode pretty quickly so that they sustain minimal damage. I say that you can't really worry, til there is something to worry about, and then if it happens you will figure it out:)
