Amazing photog for a few hours or great photog for more hours?

Recommended Posts

This isn't specifically wedding related but something a few of us were talking about today.

When you're deciding on a photographer and you have a limit to what you can spend, how do you decide whether to hire someone amazing for a few hours or someone good for a longer period?

You could hire Claudia Rodriquez, who is a good photographer, for 8 hours for $3350 (plus receive 285 printed pictures). The same amount would pay for approximately 4 hours with Del Sol (with no printed pictures). Some of our group said they would choose Del Sol because they loved the unique pictures. And then some went with Claudia because having only 4 hours of pictures would mean you would miss a lot. They would rather have really good pictures (as opposed to amazing) instead of risking that you would miss getting pictures of something.

This isn't meant as a review of either Claudia or Del Sol's work - it's just something we were talking about in general. What about you ladies? I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether you chose the expensive photog or the more reasonably priced one for more hours.

I would normally say less time & a great photographer, but I consider claudia to be great. I really think it depends on the couple & what you have planned for after the wedding. We don't have a reception planned so the most important thing to me are the lovey pictures we will take before & after the wedding.

I agree if she had said the resort photographer my answer would have been very different, but Claudia is wonderful, so it is a win/win situation:)

I think 4 hours is adequate to capture your day.. just depends what you want more photos of.. later at night with friends/family.. getting ready shots?

The ceremony usually only lasts about 15 minutes.. so if you do one hour before the ceremony, the wedding, formals (and keep things moving) during your cocktail hour or whatever before reception, if you do your first dance and cake cutting towards the beginning of the night I bet you could capture most events.. although Del Sol has awesome night shots so you may choose to spend more time on the beach. I was surprised to hear you could get them for that long for under $4,000.. I thought their rates were much higher.

Well.. that's a tough question. We went with an amazing photographer, but the package we got only came with 3 hours.. so I added on 3 extra hours for so much extra $$ per hour. For Jayson and I, it was super important to have fabulous pics of our wedding, and this guy was our first pick so we went with him. We are willing to pay alot of money for his awesome shots.. ( I hope.. haha)

Which would you choose?
Right.. I was just thinking back to my search and the Amazing photographers were allot more than just half the cost of a good one..like it was 2 hrs vs 8 hrs with prints so it was a no-brainer for us. BUT You only have those photos to look back on as your memories fade. If you're looking for something artsy and unusual I would go with the amazing photographer... if you just want beautiful photos and have a tighter budget go with the very good one. :)
