Yes. We are very, VERY excited about the warm. Very! After we found out, the first time I zipped up my knee-length down coat I actually giggled with glee.

Hillcrest is off the 163 near Balboa park, which is awesome and my favorite place in San Diego. What hospital will he be at?
oh and by the way, what is your first name, I am sorry I don't know.
Ah, sorry! First name is Lauren. =)

He'll be based at Hillcrest, the VA, and Thornton. So we figured that at least when he's on call at Hillcrest, he'll be within walking/biking distance of home. Means we might see a bit more of each other, as I know that intern year is pretty wretched, time-consumption-wise.

So would you live there? Any other 'hoods you like that are close to one of those hospitals?

I've moved cross country 3 times now. It's not that bad. The key is to just get organized.

My first tip: Start packing now - I know it seems weird, but there are things that you won't use or can live without between now and then. Think about Xmas stuff, extra linens, dishes, etc.

Second, get a mover - the time of year will make it more expensive, but have someone give you a binding estimate. The good news is you're moving from NYC so you won't have that much stuff. They can store it for you for a week or more when it arrives, but it's going to take at least a week to get it to SD in the first place, so you can time it pretty well.

Third - If you can't find someone locally to take your wedding stuff down with them, ship it to SD. Find someone who can receive a couple of boxes in SD (a friend, the sister of a friend, anyone). If you run out of options, one of my best friend's mom and sister there and I am sure they'll sign for a couple of boxes for you. That way it's there, waiting and no worries.

Alyssa's idea about writing down the contents of EVERY box is a good one. I tend to number mine - and I know then that (a) all the boxes are there and (B) I open the last box packed first - because it will have the stuff you need the most.

I'll offer help in any way I can - I'm here in NYC, too. So if you need a hand, count on mine.

oh okay, I worked for a cardiologist right across from that hospital. Oh its a really great area, lots of eating, shopping, and a cool indie movie theater all within walking distance (and a fun parade once a year). You will be about two exits away from downtown and one exit from balboa park. I would totally live there, it will be perfect.
There are some really cool high rise apartments in the downtown area. Sorry but the whole public transit isn't great, the trolley is cool but not really a commuter thing.
If he will be gone alot I say hillcrest is a good idea because its one of the safest areas in town.
