Not having an AHR?

I hmmmd and hawwwed about this forever, we had hosted a pre wedding barbq and invited everyone important to us so I felt we had already kind of celebrated that we were getting married with everyone. The most important people were all coming to our wedding, so I didn't know what to do. Everton's dad and brother couldn't make the wedding and it was for this reason we considered the ahr. When we got home and started to think about planning something I just didn't want to, I was all weddinged out and I was sure others were also, so we opted to just call it a day, I have no regrets that I didn't have one.

We're not having an AHR either for a couple reasons:

1. $$$

2. The same reason we chose a DW - his extended family is on the east coast, and mine is in the west.

Once we're settled into married life I'd like to get people together for a casual barbecue, and to watch the wedding DVD and look at pictures.

I have been back and forth about have a "party" or something really informal, but I think I will ultimately decide against it. When we first decided on a DW we said that we might have a party when we get back and some people's response was... "well, we will just attend the reception and not go to the wedding", which really wasn't the whole idea. We had a friend offer to have a party/celebration at her house... which was extremely kind... so I guess we will see. I still have a while to think about it!

I cant decide...our families are in 2 different countries, so if we did it it would just be for my side family/our friends...and itd just be another expense! I kinda feel that pretty much everyone id want there will be at the wedding anyway, and everyone else will just get an announcement afterwards.. but ive only just begun planning, so well see what really happens!

Your response is pretty much identical to what I have to say, and I see that we're getting married on the same date! Pretty funny! The whole, "we'll just attend the reception and not go to the wedding" thing was really annoying. Even my FI's sister said that! I won't even get into the whole thing with HER though... Anyway, we're still considering having a really informal barbeque or something, but honestly, it just seems like way too much planning, and I have a feeling that the cost could get out of control really easily. I guess we'll see. I definitely don't think it's rude not to have anything at home, informal or otherwise, though.
