Details in planning a DW

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have been on this forum for a while and have gone through the process of either getting your DW started or have already been through the process, can you please help us newbies out. What is the step by step process in getting started? What is the best way to approach things? I know many of us didn't know that in addition to the wedding package we either get for free or purchase, we have to pay for each person for the coctail hour/reception. I was under the impression that since it was an AI resort all that would be included. I really need some help and it seems that you guys are really kind and know your stuff. smile124.gif

Here's what I can offer for the step by step part. This is sort of what I've done so far.

1. Book resort and room block. This includes picking your date and location (obviously).

2. Book photographer.

3. Figure out wedding planner - if you are having one, using only resort planner, etc.

4. Book DJ.

5. Book other entertainment. - Firedancers/fireworks/mariachi/etc.

6. Look for dresses.

That's how far I've gotten so far. As for the AI fees, there is a setup fee for each element (ceremony, reception). At least in Cabo, this setup fee is cheaper than you can get per person rates for at non-AIs.

You have to put down a per room deposit. As rooms are booked by your guests that deposit money is then used for other things, like your own stay or the stay of others you may want to pay for. If you have deposit money left over before the wedding they give the remaining $$ back to you.

it is a big misconception that because it is an AI all the fees should be included...

if this were the case, why wouldn't everyone have private events for all their meals.

it cost extra man-hours, which equals extra $$ to set up private events and have dedicated servers for your event only.

also, to have the kitchen cook meals just for your event.

when they say a free wedding pacakge, look at the fine print..it usually just includes the legal/ceremony and a dinner for 10 (not private).

This is exactly what I've been noticing... and although it does kind of suck, I think it's TOTALLY worth it to pay the extra $$ for a private cocktail/dinner
