Quiting sucks...

Recommended Posts

I quit smoking on January 1st because Illinois passed a 'no smoking in bars' ban so I figured it would be easy to quit... I only smoke when I drink... Well, apparently its not so easy! I also smoked when I had a stressful day at work or when I'm hungry or when I'm bored... Moral of the story: I'm totally feigning for a smoke... a drag... a person walking by that smokes so i can inhale his glorious scent ... aaaahhhh..... This sucks! Any new quiters out there with some advice? My FI also quit but has smoked a few since the Jan 1... but I've been strong and haven't had as much as a puff... oooh i want a puff!! mmm...

My FI quit just after the new year. This is his third try (and hopefully his last)! He went on the medication Chantix and so far I've seen him do much better than in the past. It has a nicotine blocker so it helps get you get over that hump when you feel the need for a puff. Different things work for different people but give it some time and pretty soon you'll probably be repulsed by the smell of smoke. Good luck!

I use to smoke only when I drank as well. But, I'm weird and have a total ANTI-addictive personality so I can quit anything cold turkey and not miss it.

Smoking really is a nasty habit and you will be so much healthier by quitting.

The only advice I suggest is that when you crave a smoke chew some gum, or snack on something or if it's really bad try the patch or nicotine gum.

I've heard some horrible things about Chantix. According to the FDA, a link between Chantix and serious psychiatric complications is becoming progressively probable. And it has contributed to people committing suicide. Kinda scary! I think they already have a class action suit against the makers so be careful!

I heard these things too and brought them to FI attention. I haven't noticed any changes in him except for extreme irritability in the beginning-this was probably due to the fact that he couldn't have a cigarette! He actually quit taking it this week so hopefully we won't have to worry about any of the complications.

Mmmmm...I love smoking. Sounds odd, but I do. I've just quit for the 6th time now and I feel great (Even though I feel as though I have lost my best friend).

When I'm smoking though, I feel like Sh!t, I stink, and I have no motivation for eating healthy or being active. PLUS, I don't spend a BUNDLE on smokes anymore which is great....I would rather save those pennies and buy shoes instead wink.gif

Anyways, take a walk, do jumping jacks, read a book, drink water, chew gum, call a friend, watch a movie, eat carrots. Do what you've gotta do, just DON't SMOKE!!!

It's totally not worth it!

Couldnt have said it better! I smoke the occasional cigar every now and then, but thats it... the best thing that I did (that not many people think of) is to go and exercise (which you should be doing anyways), like go for a jog outside and then when I was done I would go somewhere that would have people smoking... when you are huffin and puffin for air, the LAST thing you want near you is people smoking... trust me you will be close to tossin your cookies and you will be good til the next time you go jogging!

...then of course on my way home I would pop into the corner store and treat myself to an icecream bar, you know... for my good efforts at jogging :)

..you win some, you lose some...

i smoked for 10 years and quit cold turkey about 1 1/2 years ago. You can do it! You feel amazing when you do! It is so awesome to wake up in the morning without coughing. It is so awesome to be able to breath. You never really notice this until you quit but you can breath so much better when you do! Keep it up! You can do it! Just stay away from alcohol for a little bit. SOon you will get to the point where the smell grosses you out! Good luck!
