Last night Doug and I are discussing wedding things and out of nowhere he says, "Can I be in charge of the favors? I really want to do that part."

Like a lot of you before me, (and I know cause I've read your stories!) I have this feeling that because I'm doing all the work, then I should get to do things the way I want to. Doug has only had a few little things that he would like to have his way, so I try to incorporate his ideas, but for the most part he's let me have free reign on whatever I want. So when he does have an idea, I feel like how can I do anything but go with what he'd like to do?

The problem I have with him doing the favors, is that we had already discussed what we were going to do (ok, I discussed making personalized CD's, he agreed!) and I really really want to do them! Doug is what I would call musically concious, he is very into his guitars and is in a band, he's totally into the music scene here in Seattle, and he said he is feeling bad about the blatant copyright infringement we would be making if we do 150 CD's full of music copied from out itunes.

I get this. I'm not ignorant to it. I just feel ok about it given that we wouldn't be selling the CD's, or passing them out at some street fair or something.

I ended up telling Doug that he can have the favor job, as long as he picks something that encompasses all the same things that a CD would, ie:

~It needs to be personal and something that has a part of both of us in it (like the songs we would pick)

~It needs to have a way to personalize it to our Hawaiian wedding theme (like the CD booklets would be full of pictures of us and Hawaiian styled graphics and what not.)

~It needs to be something that everyone can use, covering a broad base of ages.

~It needs to be cost-effective! (The CD's and booklets and jewel cases can be bought in bulk)

Doug completely agreed with this, and then came up with a bunch of lame ideas like shot glasses (what's my 88 year old Grama gonna do with that?).

I am totally going to "let" him do this, no matter how it turns out, even if it's not something I end up liking, because I'm excited that he wants a part of the planning. It's not a super big deal, I just like the CD idea soooooooo much. I want him to feel part of this whole thing, it's his wedding too, but I'm a little bit nervous to see what we end up with.

Just wondering if any of you have any favor ideas that would be like a CD, but NOT! :) Any suggestions welcome!

Haha, no that was Trisha, but too funny, cause I was totally thinking it's just like that, how they come up with an idea and you just have to do it that way, even when you think OMG.

I don't have any ideas, but I know EXACTLY what you mean. I do everything and choose everything for the wedding, so when Matt shows some interest, I try to let him do something. Problem is, he doesn't do it "right". Right being the way I want it done. It's hard cuz we have spent so much time and energy from day one planning every little part and they decide one day, hey it would be fun to do "this" and have no idea how much you have already involved yourself in the other idea! Ughh. I will think and see if I can come up with something for you...

I agree that he should be allowed to do something. After all, it is his wedding too - even though it's all about the bride :)

We are actually giving our guests leather luggage tags as their favors (and they are going to be their place cards as well for the reception.) I know there is no music involved here, so I'm not sure if this idea helped you or not. LOL!

Carly, exactly! No offense to them, but (see below)

I could not have said that any better. They just don't realize all that we've got going on and planned in our minds because they don't ask! Then when they do ask, they zone out when we get started talking about it all, or when they come up with an idea on their own, we're suppsed to be all excited that our dreams are flushing down the toilet! Haha, I'm only half joking

Thanks Jen, it doesn't have to be music, I just love how personal we can make a CD, and like the luggage tags, it's something that people will use. It's not a bag of jordan almonds thats gonna get lost under the seat of someones car later that night!
