HELP! Should I change the hotel?

Recommended Posts

Do the people using their timeshares have a problem w/ the day pass fee? It's exceptionally common for any AI resort to require one if you aren't staying there. I don't necessarily agree w/ it for a wedding when you are already paying for the ceremony and reception separate anyway ... but c'est la vie.

I am getting married at PPC and the day passes are $95 ... room rates are a bit lower too (we are honeymoning at PPR).

Can you offer to pay for 1/2 the cost of the day pass for people?

I chose a really inexpensive resort just to not have to deal with this problem. But, we still have 7 guests so far that are staying somewhere else. I really don't think they will be saving any money. But, I don't want to control what people do. I just hope there aren't any complications with it. I don't know how we'd manage to meet up with them. Maybe they will have answering machines in their room. I just love the idea of all being at the hotel together, which is why I picked a less expensive place & did so much research into getting a good price.

Anyway, I put on our website that we hope everyone joins us at the hotel & there is an $80 fee to enter the hotel. I didn't specify who will pay it. I've learned they are just assuming they will pay it. That's a big relief, because we don't have an extra 7 x $80 in our tight budget. I did email the WC & get the fee reduced to $60. Maybe we can pay half. I really don't know what we will do yet.

I don't know if you should change hotels, but I do think for people who haven't picked a hotel yet they should really consider a less expensive place. I think it saves you headaches in the end.

Our photographers chose to stay at the resort next door. I presume to save money and allow them to stay a few extra nights. It's going to make it more difficult to communicate with them ahead of time, but we will do what we can.

The day passes are $95 for 10am-6pm and $95 for $6pm-12am at our resort. Which means they will each need 2 passes for the wedding day, 1 each for the Rehearsal Dinner and 1 each for our day after TTD session. That's a LOT of extra money!!

So, I am trying to negotiate with our WC ... but they know they are responsible for the day passes -- although we will likely cover the passes for the Rehearsal Dinner.

I havent spoken to Kelly about it since she told me about the fee. I guess I could try to negotiate a lower rate but I assumed that it was a firm policy. I agree with you about trying to please everyone. At first people LOVED the hotel. They all emailed and called saying how beautiful it is. But now they all seem to have an issue because of the price. I agree with them it is expensive but I feel like it is my wedding so I should be able to pick the hotel that I love and Im not requiring anyone to come (I even gave my bridesmaids the option because i didnt want to put a financial burden on anyone)

That stinks! I would talk with the resort and see what the limits are on how many non-residents can come to the wedding, and if you can negotiate the rate. I would also let her know if you can't agree you may need to go with another resort. Maybe they will be more willing to work with you on a compromise than lose your business all together? If you can't work it out and don't want to put the additonal expense on your guests then you may have to pay the fees or change hotels. I would find out before more people start booking.

To my knowledge there is no 'cap' on how many outside guests can come in for any wedding at PPR (they're policies are much in-line w/ PPC). Also, EVERYTHING is negotiable. BUT, have a good leg to stand on before you start asking for concessions.

PPC wanted a $2500 deposit for the wedding and reception ... but I told the WC that we had more than 20 rooms booked through a Group Rate (which meant non-refundable deposits) so that should be deposit enough. She waived the deposit, so we will just pay for all our our ceremony/reception costs when we are there.

I am currently negotiating the Day Pass fee as well.
