anyone know about Riu Yucatan?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm relatively new to the forum. Was looking into Jamaica but just started investigating Mexico (riviera maya area) and was wondering if anyone knew anything about Riu Yucatan? Other places were considering are Dreams Tulum (anyone have guest rates on this one? also is it really 2 hrs from airport?), and Iberostar. Any info is appreciated. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

i'm getting married at the yucatan in july. we liked it for quite a few reasons: it was just renovated, it more lush than some of the other resorts in playa del carmen, it's very close to town, it's not a highrise complex- everything is low to the ground, there are a lot of really decent reviews on tripadvisor and we really like riu resorts. but most importantly, we felt it was the best option while still keeping a budget in mind for our guests.

i've only had to get in touch with the wedding coordinator twice so far and she's been quick to respond both times.

i have a couple pictures of the ceremony sites and i also have all of the wedding add ons. pm me if you'd like me to send them.

Thanks Ladies! Was there a reason you chose that Riu over yucatan? I'm still struggling on deciding. Also looking at Dreams Tulum but wasn't crazy about the drive from teh airport (i expect about 10 kids and after 2 flights feel another 2 hours is a bit much!) You all have been SOO helpful. I hope once i'm further along in this process I can be as helpful as you all are!!

I'm getting married at the Yucatan on January 11th. There are a few differences between Yucatan, Playacar and Tequila. Yucatan is newly renovated, on the beach it has the complex's fitness center and health club. Playacar is a little smaller, but older, on the beach. The bad thing about the Playacar is guests have to determine what time they are going to eat each night - like a cruise ship. They sign up for 6 pm and then they have to eat at that time every night, so not as much flexibility if you want to do a tour or something. Tequila is less expensive, but still nice, off the beach. You use the beach of the other properties. The Tequila has the disco and supposedly one of the best breakfast buffet's in the entire Yucatan. I chose a Riu because it was less expensive for the guests and close to PDC so we could get off site for activities. Dreams Tulum is also very nice, but it's more expensive and further out, so it'd be a very expensive cab ride if you wanted to go anywhere. If you stay at Dreams, you're more likely to spend the whole on site, which isn't a bad thing, you just need to consider that.

I got married at Playacar (LOVED IT, BTW!), and we did not have to have dinner at the same time every night. We chose our dinner times each day that we made reservations. Our whole group said they'd all go back to Playacar!
