Photoshop- removing tan lines & other tricks

Recommended Posts

DISCLAIMER: I did all this when I was first playing around with photoshop. Most are over photoshopped, but it was too fun to stop. So try not to judge :)

Here are some pictures I photoshopped for a friend. She got a splotchy sunburn before the wedding & didn’t like any of the pictures that showed it.

Tip for removing tan lines

Use cloning tool, but set opacity to something like 20%. This helps give more of a natural look. If you are really patient, set it to 10% & paint over several times. You have to unclick & paint many times. If you just hold down the button, it will not repaint an area.

A description of how to do this is here http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...tml#post178696

These are before & after pictures. *there are many more pictures on page 2*

Ouch! That sunburn looks painful. Huge difference in the pics. I know with the before pictures I immediately focused in on the sunburn...kind of a distraction. The after pictures look great. I'm sure you're friend was thrilled that you did that for her! :)

Wow! Great Job! My girls bought new bathing suits with halter straps on purpose this year to avoid the strap marks.. I'm really worried about myself burning. We'll be in the pool all day and when we went in '05, despite tons of sunscreen, I turned into a lobster!!

My other fear for the photos is face shine/sweat.

Thank goodness for Photoshop!

That's what I was trying to do. You can still see a the tan line & sunburn, but it's not the main focus. I was worried if i edited too much it would look unnatural. I also didnt spend a really long time on each picture. I was doing about 20 for her. With enough dedication, I would think you could make a picture look near flawless. It's also a little tricky with someone who has freckles. You don't want to eliminate them all.

Thanks! I was kind of sloppy with it. I can't get them to resize (sometimes photobucket works for me, sometimes it doesn't) but I didn't want to show them so huge where you can see all the flaws. In a normal size, you can't really tell they had been edited.

I wanted a halter dress to not have to worry about tan lines, but I ended up really liking a vneck dress with a sheer back. I dont want to waste time in mexico avoiding the sun so i really hope I can prevent tan lines. I plan on buying some non halter suits & mixing up what I wear to avoid getting on big line. I might just ned up with a bunch of tan lines though! Atleast i know I can photoshop it now!

I'm also making a surprise Lumapix photobook for this friend now that i have all her wedding pictures. She got ahold of me at the right time. My hobby has been photoshop & lumapix so she is going to be getting all sorts of photo projects from me. I'm also making a photo video once i know what her first dance song was.

Yeah, i'm addicted now. I photoshop while i eat my lunch every day. I email this girl about 6 pictures a day of stuff I've done. First i removed the tan lines & then I started playing with the colors. I want to get more ideas of what to do next. We've been friends since high school, but we don't talk that often. It was pretty fortunate that we happened to talk the other day & I found out she was in need of photoshop help. I bet she wasn't expecting all this.
