She says she has never worked w/a company that does stuff like that unless you are operating machinery. In fact, her whole office is pissed for me at this point - they all think random testing is a violation as well. So at least I know I'm not being a complete extremist!
That's great they reacted like that...I think its a violation of your privacy and totally unncessary

Christa,

I thought of you when I heard this story this morning.... These are the types of jobs where random testing is warranted, not a desk job.

Autopsies find alcohol, some cocaine, 2 officials say

New details on firefighters killed in blaze

By Jonathan Saltzman and Frank Phillips, Globe Staff | October 4, 2007

One of two Boston firefighters who died fighting a fire in a Chinese restaurant in late August was legally intoxicated at the time, and the other had cocaine in his system, two officials said yesterday.

A source who was briefed by a person with knowledge of the autopsies of Paul J. Cahill and Warren J. Payne told the Globe that one firefighter had a blood-alcohol level higher than .08, the level at which someone is too drunk to drive legally in Massachusetts. The other firefighter had traces of cocaine in his system, the source said.

FINAL UPDATE (I swear)

I got a follow up call from my recruiter this morning regarding this mess. She said she "looped back" with the employer to let them know I am declining their offer. They were "extremely disappointed." Apparently she explained to them that I had an issue with their policies, especially because I was not briefed on any of this & was subjected to an in depth physical, on their property. It made me extremely uncomfortable.

Their response was that any candidate looking for a job should expect to undergo random drug testing at any company. They really believe this! My recruiter told the hiring manager that was not the case. The response was "well at any of the big companies you should expect it." I love my recruiter for this...she said "no, I work with Microsoft, Expedia, T-Mobile, Amazon etc & none of them do random testing."

Whatever. The whole point to me is that I should have been completely informed of EVERYTHING they were going to subject me to. Period. Bottom line, even though the company wants to blame the recruiter, when I showed up on Monday the hiring manager should have welcomed me & explained the whole process to me.

Bottom line, she did none of that. She met me at the front desk & said "let's go." She should have picked up on the fact that I didn't know what the hell was going on when I asked questions like "where are we going? What do you mean your drawing blood? I thought this was just a drug screen." She did not respond to any of that. She's an idiot & I don't want to work for her.

END RANT :)
