Questions about renting a villa?

Hi everyone,

I'm still trying to gather ideas about a destination wedding. I'm really intrigued by the villas in Cabo. I do know that we won't have more than 15-20 guests.

I saw the Leigh Miller photos that were taken at Villa Maria and I fell in love instantly. If we can keep our wedding costs reasonable, I would love to have her photograph the wedding. But I digress...

1. How do the villas in Cabo work? Do you rent the entire villa and stay there the length of the wedding and have your reception there?

2. Do the villas generally offer planning services?

3. If your party is staying in the villa, who typically pays for it? Even with a very small wedding, staying at Villa Maria for 5 days would easily bring us over $10,000 just for accomodations.

Thanks for your help guys!

I would check out this website - they have different sized homes everywhere in the world and you rent them dirrectly from the owners. My family takes a group vacation together every summer and we are looking for a place that can sleep 15-20 people - this is a good place to start.

I can probably help you with a few questions... My wedding is at Villa Grande in October. I haven't found that many people doing the Villa thing.. so feel free to shoot me a message if you have any specific questions.
Here goes.
1. We are renting our Villa for 3 nights.. be careful.. some require you to rent it for 7 days.. others simply have a minimum of like 3. We are having the Wedding and the reception at the Villa. We're expecting about 40 people.. so we chose a bigger Villa so we have somewhere to move our guests for a cocktail reception, while the caterer sets up for dinner.

2. The villa's do offer some services.. but if you talking in terms of WC planning. I don't believe so. We hired a caterer (Lazy Gourmet) and they do offer full WC services.

3. We're only having my sister and his brother standing up.. and we've got 5 rooms to fill so basically we're having our closest friends stay at the Villa with us. We are paying for the whole thing ourselves.. but again we only have our Villa for 3 nights. We're renting from suncabo.com but another helpful site is cabovillas.com.

Hope this helps.. as I said.. if you have any other questions shoot me a message!!

I was originally going to get married in a Villa. But after all my research and the fact that I have a lot of people coming, we decided to have it at a resort. But I thought I would pass along some info that I learned while researching.

1. If you rent a villa in Pedregal, the outside noise must stop at 10:00PM. You will need to move the party inside. I have heard that the police WILL show up. Also, from what I'm told, the beaches in Pedregal are not swimable. So if you stay for a few days (since there will be minimum night requirments) you will have to travel to find a beach that you can swim in.

2. Both Cabovillas and Suncabo will charge you a "touring fee" if you choose to visit the villas in person before booking. Of course, this fee is applied to the cost of the rental. However, we discovered that American Express is affiliated with another company called Villas of Distinction and if you have an AmEx account, you can probably get someone to give you a tour for free.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. I checked out a ton of villas and I actually went to see Villa Vista Ballena in person.

I agree with others that Sun Cabo and Cabo Villas seem to have the most information and good customer service. I e-mailed Cabo Villas and they sent me an overview of which villas are the best for weddings of different sizes. I attached the document (I think) for you.

We still haven't reserved anything yet but plan to by the end of the week. We are planning to rent several villas in the same neighborhood. We'll have the wedding on the beach and a very casual reception at one of the villas. Everyone I've talked to says that guests don't expect to have their rooms payed for by the couple. If we could pay for everyone, we would love to do that. We have decided to subsidize the room costs to bring the cost per room down to 150/night. We are also going to go to Costco and stock the houses with beer and munchies for our guests.

Our current idea is to have the rehearsal dinner at Fiesta Americana and overflow guests can stay there. It is really close to the villas we are renting.

Some of the villas charge an event fee and others don't. Many of the villas have a minimum number of nights per stay.

It does seem like very few people are doing the villa thing, so it is nice to have someone else to share information with. If you are interested, I'll let you know how things go when we make our reservations.

Cheers,

Laurel

  • 2 weeks later...

Here is another attachment that has info about villas. I found it helpful because is says which villas charge event fees and which don't. It also indicates which villas don't allow events at all.

If we can find the time, my FI and I are going to go for a site visit this fall and will check out some villas. I can let you know what we find out, but it may not be for a few months.

Hmmm? The attachment didn't upload. I'll try again later when I have a better wireless signal.
