Dress is in and its not good.......

Recommended Posts

We are in THE exact same boat! I was also told I was inbetween sizes and they recommended going the size up and I agreed...When the dress came in it wouldn't even stay up and it's strapless....I FREAKED OUT! Anyways I just had my first fitting with this wonderfully recommended seamstress Halle and she pinned it all up and I could actually see my shape in the dress and was soooo excited! She says we will probably need a few appointments and she quoted $90....she says the dress is at least 2 1/2 sizes too big and she is pulling it in from this direction and that and when it was all pinned I could have cried! It was gorgeous..I have another appointment Wednesday so I'm getting excited! Seriously no worries hun when you get the alterations they make it fit your body so nice that it's almost better cause it was made for you....you know?? LOL anyways hope this makes you feel even a tiny bit better hun.....GOOD LUCK!!

All the best,

Tammy

I just went through the same thing...it was so big they had to order me a whole new dress, and the I went home thinking I made a mistake about picking that dress. I'm sure once the alterations are done on it, it will look great! You should see if they will do the alterations for free because of the mess up with the sizes, that's the least they could do!

The same thing is happening to me. I was the last appt during a trunk show and I guess the saleswoman was distracted because when my real dress came in and I tried it on it was huge on me-2 sizes too big! To be honest in all of the excitement I didn't even look at what size she measured me at and what size she actually ordered. Now I am thinking I should ask the store to give me a deal on alterations b/c of the mistake, but I have heard their seamstress is expensive and hard to deal with since no one speaks english there! It does ruin the moment a bit when you put on "your dress" and it doesn't fit...at all! But hopefully we will all end up happy once it fits. Fingers crossed.............

A good seamstress can do amazing things. the one at my shop told me she had a client that lost over 50 lbs and they were able to alter the dress. I went down almost 2 (street) sizes after i ordered my dress and they were able to make it fit perfectly.

Where are you in Canada? If you're in the Toronto area I have a wonderful seamstress and is pretty reasonable pricewise. Good luck!

It's amazing what a good seamstress can do. Last year I was a BM and the dress was HUGE on me when I got it. It was strapless and if I didn't hold it up it would fall to the ground while zipped! I found a great seamstress who went to work pinning it up on me. I couldn't believe the difference when she was done. It fit perfectly and she only charged me $75!

So have faith. Dresses can always be taken in.

Thank you for the offer and encouragement!  I am in Alberta though, but I did call the bridal store on Monday and made an appointment to try the dress on while the stores owner is in.  So hopefully she will see that it is their measurement error and do the alterations at a discount.  Otherwise, I'm taking my dress and my money elsewhere!!
