Review Tulum Xtreme excursion

Recommended Posts

There are so many different excursions to do in the Riviera Maya, I thought Iâ€d put in my two cents and try and steer people clear of this one! The short of it is, better to spend your time doing something else.

Tulum Xtreme includes the Tulum ruins, zip lining, rappelling, and snorkeling in a cenote. Lunch was also provided. Itâ€s a full day tour; they picked us up before 7am and we got back to our resort about 5pm.

Pros: Tulum, the cenote, and the fact that they pick you up in small 12-person vans (meaning you wonâ€t be spending 2 hours picking everyone up like if you had a large bus). Lunch was tasty too.

Cons: zip lining, rappelling, and being gone the entire day

Tulum: This was our first stop, and seeing the ruins was great! We had about 1.5 hours there and 45 min. of that was a guided tour. Anyone whoâ€s been to Tulum knows that 1.5 hours is enough time to see the ruins since theyâ€re so small. We even had time to eat a tasty lunch while waiting for everyone to get back to the van.

Zip lining: This was pretty lame. There are only 3 zip lines, and while the towers are high, the grade isnâ€t very steep so you go pretty slow. In fact, they offered for our group to go again and everyone turned them down. That should tell you something!

Rappelling: Also lame. We thought it would be real rappelling but instead they just built a tower and you rappel off that. Itâ€s not very high, either, so your turn is over very quickly.

Snorkeling in the Cenote: Really cool! We would like to have spent more time doing this part of it but each activity is only allotted so much time.

To sum up, do Tulum as its own thing. That way youâ€re not spending your whole day doing something like this. For snorkeling in cenotes, Iâ€ve heard that Hidden Worlds is really cool. Go there instead and you can snorkel to your heartâ€s content!

In our opinions this was a waste of a day. We could have pulled out the two things we liked and done them some other way that didnâ€t take up our whole day.

Nope. They just call it Tulum Xtreme but it's not related to the park. Although now that I think about it, I thought the park on the other side of Xcaret was called Xplor. I could definitely be wrong though!

I've heard there's really great zip lining in the area, just not with this particular excursion!
