Is anyone else concerned about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill affecting the Yucatan Peninsula and their wedding? It's devastating the damage already done, but I just read on msnbc.com,

"As it is now, it's already looking like this could be the worst oil spill since the Valdez," John Hocevar, oceans campaign director for Greenpeace USA, told msnbc.com on Thursday. "Itâ€s quite possible this will end up being worse than the Valdez in terms of environmental impact since it seems like BP will be unable to cap the spill for months." BP's well is spewing about 210,000 gallons of oil a day into the ocean, the Coast Guard estimates. But if the leak is not capped, millions of gallons of oil could spill into the Gulf of Mexico.

For months? Dumping 210,000 gallons per day!!! Since I know nothing of oil spills, and how they travel, I'm already envisioning black, tarry water bringing dead marine life ashore during my dream wedding! Not to mention the poor animals! sad.gif

Im concerned...but ive also heard they are taking out these flame retardant bouy things and they are gonna start burning it (hello non existant ozone)....the good thing is the mexican government knows of the threat, so hopefully they will take preventative measures to keep the impact away from their tourist driven economy!!

Hey ladies - I know it seems like a lot and it is an awful situation - but as far as concerns about Mexico's beaches go - I really think you'll be alright. I live in Houston so it's been a pretty widely covered topic lately. The oil spill is predicted to reach the mouth of the mississippi tonight and they've already started to burn it. It's quite a ways away from being an issue for Mexico (Mostly an issue for Louisiana). (Also my fiance works for an oil company here in Houston and is knowledgeable on oil so until he tells me to be worried, we don't need to worry!!)

The Golf of Mexico carries water in a clock-wise movement, so the waters from Mexico get carried to the MX/TX border, which get carried to Houston, which gets carried to LA, which gets carried to FL, down the coast and then eventually kind of floats back out into the big water. I wouldn't worry about it to much if you're getting married in Mexico, it's just not how the water travels.

OMG so do I. I was watching the news and thinking of that commercial. Also the poor fishermen in Louisiana. This is how they make their living.
