Totally feel you guys here - I mean I'm not going crazy with how much stuff I'm doing for the wedding but my FI has not had too much input. I told him our colors and he has no idea what the flowers look like - I did the invitations (with help from my friends) and designed the travel mugs. Whenever I ask for input he just says - whatever you like, he really doesn't get the whole wedding planning business. He said he would have been happy to just elope, but it's not what I wanted. I think he's happy with everything, he did pick out his own clothes (with my help lol)...The only other thing I really want him to do is write vows - and I would like them to be a surprise...but we'll see how that goes! Glad I am not the only one!

as of last night, my biggest stress factor is dealing with how my guests have been hearing about the bad press that mexico is getting lately. people are asking me if i'm still having my wedding because of this and totally oblivious to the fact that all the violence is happening at the border. it's a little frustrating to feel that i have to defend my destination wedding sad.gif

Great point! I know I have definitely had comments from guests and I'm sure many people on this forum are experiencing the same thing.

Thanks Carolina24!!
I'm slowly coming around to see that. This forum has been a godsent for me. I love him to pieces and he's so laid back (which normally keeps me grounded but for this I don't want to be lol :) )
Anyway, thanks again for the insight.
All the best,
Cheers

  • 3 weeks later...

vent coming on: we sent our STD about 5 months or so ago, most people were on board so we figure 50 our of the 100 invited will be there. Now frick its 6 months to go and only 11 people, only immediate family has booked. Originally the FH said no way in the world are we doing Mexico - he loved the idea of a destination wedding though. I was leaning towards just us and immediate family and a Hawaiin waterfall. Now to accomodate everyone we are doing a family friendly resort for 2 weeks in Mexico and people still arent booking - what can I do to get them to book? sorry I am just really regretting my decision, wished we had said f off to everyone and just went to Hawaii and spent half of what we are spending for a wedding that isnt what either one of us wants!

from what a lot of the brides here say, people wait till the last minute to book and before you know it, you'll have more people booked than you thought. we're less than 5 months away and NO ONE has booked yet. I mean NO ONE (FI and I and MOH and guest...that's it)! It doesn't bother me b/c FI and I wanted to get married in Mexico regardless of people being there or not. i'm sorry that you're regretting your decision, but in the end you'll be marrying your FI and that's all that matters, plus Mexico is beautiful!!! :) even though I'm biased :)

sorry i had to edit b/c i just saw that you're getting married at secrets maroma...that's our HM resort!!! now I'm even more biased lol, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time!

Very informative thread.

I feel like just even starting to plan this is the most stressful part.

First we couldn't decide what to do or where to do it so we agreed on a backyard wedding at my family's Florida home.

Then FI said his family wouldn't travel from NJ so we decided to just elope!

(which is what i secretly wanted all along!)

Now, due to stressful family issues, we're not eloping at the end of this month as planned.

Now we're back at square one, with FI not wanting to elope, and us being at a standstill because he wants his family there (who he says won't travel) and I want a destination beach wedding.

GRRRRRRR

OK, sorry for that, i guess i needed to vent.

Our first venue fell through because they kept raising prices on us even though a contract had been signed. We had to start over and find something else b/c we were just fed up. I think the lack of control factor is my biggest source of stress. Although you could have a wedding in the states and any number of things can go wrong. I'm not terribly stressed now that we straightened this out though.

We are about 7 months away and only immediate family has booked so far. I think it is the nature of most people to wait. I'm sure tons of people will be booking their trips soon.
