Bridal Shower - GAMES?!?

Recommended Posts

Hey girls~

I know many of us have the same feelings about having a bridal shower with a destination wedding (i myself have mixed emotions) but my mother was adament about having a shower, and to make a long story short - i have somehow ended up in the middle of the planning of it (again, not too happy since i dont feel it is entirely appropriate)....

ANYWAY - real reason for this post - ive been to bridal showers where games have been played such as making a wedding gown out of toilet paper, bridal bingo, and trivia questions....but im hoping to come up with some ideas for "games" that havent been done so often.

So far, ive come up with a couple ideas:

1. There are these bridal shower themed lottery ticket type scratch off tickets that you can buy...was thinking of just having those for each guest and winning tickets get a prize.

2. There is this gift passing game where you pass the gift left or right around a circle as someone reads a story - whenever you hear the word left or right you pass the gift that direction (we usually do it as a gift exchange gift at christmas time) but I was thinking about changing it up a bit by writing our story about how the bride to be found Mr. Right...person holding the gift at the end wins the centerpiece

What do you thinkhuh.gif

Any unique ideas for non-traditional games that you have are HUGELY appreciated....

Thanks!

For all of my friends who got married, we come up with a list of questions to ask the groom (i.e. What was she wearing the first time you met? What does she want most on her registry? What habit of yours does she find most annoying?). Then we put together cards on pretty paper with the question on front and the answer on back. Everytime the bride is about to open a gift, the individual who bought the gift asks a question (they are handed out in advance). The bride attempts to guess what the groom said. If she guesses wrong, they are given a piece of gum to chew. The more wrong questions, the more gum in they have to chew (although you can omit this part and we have on occasion). I have seen a version of this game done where the groom is actually filmed while answering the questions and the video is played with each of his responses. This is a lot of work though.

Anyway, this is a great game. It makes the gift opening much more fun and entertaining for guests. But it is a game that the bride really should not be organizing. If you have a friend involved, maybe she can e-mail or meet with your FI to ask the questions and prepare the cards. Often the responses are really quite funny.

By the way, I really dislike showers and shower games. But I think this game that I mentioned above makes the shower so much fun. Last month we threw a shower at a nice little cafe my girlfriend. We had lunch and then did this game with the gift opening. Then cake and coffee and that was it. No other games! And I really enjoyed being a part of it.

ME TOO!!! the only reason i went along with it is because my mom promised it didnt have to be a brunch and punch...its a friday night, on an outdoor patio, with open bar and entertainment.

And, i agree too many games is unbearable -

As far as how i got roped in to this planning - i just recently returned home, 90% of my friends are out of state, and my sister wont be home from college until the end of summer!!!!

I just had my bridal shower and my sister found a few games for our entertainment. My favorite by far was the "draw the bride" game which was hysterical as most of the people are not exactly artists. So it provided a lot of good laughs. I did not like having to pick the winner but I was asked to and we gave out prizes to winners (Starbucks gift cards).

There was also another game where the guests had to fill out some marital advice that started with each letter of our names, it looked like this:

m___

a___

r___

There was some really funny stuff there but it did take a while to read through all of them.

Enjoy, bridal showers are fun. Although I'm in the minority of people who enjoys weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, etc LOL. I just like parties in general.

We just had my daughters shower and had no games. And quite a few guest thanked us for that. What we did was have each person address an envelope (that is used for the thank you cards) and put them in a bucket for drawings as she opened her gifts. We gave out the same beach bags that we are giving for our OOT bags. We added a few of the goodies in the bag too. People at the shower are not coming to the wedding, so we were safe with these gifts. We did 10 for the adults and 3 for the kids. It saves the bride alot of work when it comes to her thank you notes. Each person also got a candle with ribbons on them (orange and fushia) with a thank you charm. The kids got fans like the ones from the wedding and the goldfish we had swimming in the bowls that we used as table decorations.

Hehe. My guests didn't drink much because most drove but they still had some saucy advice. Some that I was blushing while reading in front of my Mom and aunt LOL. My name starts with a "Z" so one of my friends wrote - "Zip your pants when not around your husband" Hahahaha.

We played a good "ice breaker" style game - not really bridal shower specific, but it was good because I had 25ish women from different circles.

It's the "famous couple" game - when they arrive, everyone gets the name of half of a famous couple pinned to their back, and by asking other ppl questions about themselves, have to figure out who is on their back. ie. someone will get "Brad" and someone else will get "Angelina". Once you figure out who you are, you have to find your match, and the first couple to do so wins. Like I said - not bridal shower specific, but people got to know eachother real quickly!

Another fun one was the Lei game - everyone got a flower Lei coming in and were told that you couldn't say words like "Wedding", "Mexico" "(fiance's name)", or do something like cross their legs. If they say/do one of those things and someone catches them, they get their Lei stolen from them. Person with the most Leis at the end wins. This would work equally as well (and more hilariously) with things like sombreros, cheap flip flops, etc.

We also played "Pictionary" in teams of 4 with romantic movie titles.
