Oh I HATE it when people say I could get married at a beach here! That drive me NUTS!!!! Yeah, because the smell of sewage and dead fish is SO appealing! Not to mention the Super 8 Drive in Motel. Nice.

I never understood why some people feel the need to add their 2 cents about something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM!!! This is your wedding and it's the day you want. They're lucky they're even invited. So do want you want and let them know you're ok if they can't attend. Bottom line, you are having the wedding you and your FI want.

I think the best thing for you to do is ignore them! We've all been threw it! People aren't familar with the whole DW concept and will ask a bunch or say a bunch of lame stupid S$#$. Just ignore. You can't please everyone, the only people you have to please is yourself. PERIOD.

i'm feeling lucky that we didn't get this crap from a lot of people like many of you girls are. how rude can people get!!

what i usually say is "thanks for your input, however we've always dreamt of a DW and since it's our wedding that's what we're doing"

also, if you have out of town people at ANY wedding it's costly. We're spending a ton to go to a wedding in St Louis (From MN) for the weekend. For the price we're paying we could go on a short vacation to Mexico. So really, people can SUCK IT UP! Oh, and shut up too!

Oh yeah, I can't tell you how many times I heart that. Because Lake Michigan is SO MUCH like Cabo! Right! People are stupid...get used to it!

We told everyone right from the get-go that we were having DW and it was not open for discussion. We told everyone, including our friends, that although we would love to have them there, we didn't want anyone to feel obligated to be there as all that really mattered to use was that Jeff & I were there- THAT'S IT! I think that kept people from booking just because they felt obligated. Granted, we ended up with a very small group (just 14) but it was perfect for us and I couldn't imagine it any other way. Jeff & I still talk about our wedding all the time and how beautiful it was.

My DH is too cute...last night we were watching "MY Big Fat Fabulous Wedding" and after seeing what kind of wedding 2 million dollars would buy, my DH turned to me and said "You know what? That's all nice, but our wedding was so much more US, and so much more meaningful than that. I'm so glad we got married the way we did." Ahhh yes, DH & I are happy and that's ALL that matters!

Keep your chin up and ignore the remarks. Once you get back, the people that went won't be able to stop thanking you for showing them how to have such a wonderful vacation, and the people that didn't go will be insanely jealous that they missed out on such a great time!

Hey, I don't mean to hijack this thread but thanks for watching my sister's show last night.

LADIES...you always seem to forget the most enjoyable way of answering these types of people back...

Next time you happen to get someone asking you why you have to have a DW, simply answer,

"You know what, you're right, it is rather selfish for me to want to have my wedding suit my desires. I really didn't consider the expenses everyone else would have to spend to get a free meal. Well, lucky you're around to remind me because I mean think about it, I am spending $100-200 per person to buy you and your spouse dinner and in return you buy me a $50-100 gift. I see your reasoning as it's a win win situation for you. But since I am having it here and not where I want, which portion of my wedding do you want to pay for so that it can be local? I still don't have anyone paying for the photographer..."

That shut a number of people up on my side of the family...smile159.gif

When you really get tired of the comments, just start agreeing with them.

"Yes, you're right--- I really don't want you to go, so all of my effort for my wedding is going to be spent trying to figure out exactly how I can prevent you from attending."

Weddings bring out the worst in people.

That, and babies....
