Any Brides with Celiac Disease??

Recommended Posts

O-kay, I have looked everywhere for the Betty Crocker GF cakes...can't seem to find them in Canada yet. boo hiss boo. Might have to get some sent up here...

Just found the GF cards to bring to restaraunts. They have them in many languages. Like I said before too, I have brought them with me to Mexico before and had no problems. It was a little different, but this new one is a little more simple.

Hi Everyone,

I just got back from our wedding in Mexico (January 26, 2010) and was REALLY IMPRESSED by the head chef at our resort (H10 Ocean Coral & Turquesa). My cousin has celiac disease, and the head chef was extremely accomodating, and made him special gluten free meals at the Welcome Dinner and Wedding Reception. He also offered to make my cousin gluten free pancakes in the mornings. The chef offered me a gluten-free wedding cake, but I didn't take it (my cousin is also allergic to dairy, and I didn't think a gluten-and-dairy free wedding cake would taste very good). However, the option was there. (Note we had an advance meeting with the head chef, organized by the wedding coordinator).

There were also several other guests at our wedding who had food allergies, and the chef was extremely accommodating and took all the allergies very seriously. In general, the food was absolutely DELICIOUS - fresh, healthy, good quality. Check out the Ocean Coral & Turquesa thread for more details about this resort - I highly recommend it! (It's beautiful, they have a great wedding coordinator, great food, great service, etc!!)

Best of luck!

Clarissa

My sister (MOH) has celiacs and although I am not getting married down south (Niagara Falls bride) I called around bakeries up there and found one that does GF cupcakes so I could get her one. It would probably be harder for you if there is a language barrier but maybe your WC can look into something like this.

Has anyone tried to bring a gluten free cake mix to a resort to have them make it as their wedding cake? I am thinking of doing this, but I'm just worried about the lack of knowledge about cross contamination. Betty Crocker Gluten Free cake mixes aren't available in Canada yet, but Celimix has a great chocolate cake mix and Kinnikinicks always has awesome mixes(find both in Sobey's). I'm so happy to have found this forum and this thread! I was just avoiding the topic of my celiac's when it came to my wedding planning...it's always such a pain to explain and deal with, but now I don't feel like I'll have to worry so much! Oh and also, last time I went to Mexico I just packed lots of rice crackers and gf bars/cookies in my checked luggage with no problem, so I think this time I'll do the same. They came in handy for days when we left the resort and midnight snacks.

This is really good to know...thank you! My FI is a celiac - and I've been wondering if they would accomodate him / his meals.
You should let your MOH know that we were at EPM last March and my FI didn't get sick once (which is amazing)!

wow this is great knowing that some of the resorts were so accommodating with guests with gluten free products. i have food allergies and i'm a holistic nutritionist so i know how hard it is for others for traveling and eating out. i still have issues and i have just recently looked into carrying 'allergy cards' with me to restaurants but was unsure how they were received.

I sent both the English and Spanish versions of the celiac card to my wedding coordinator as my mom and one of our guests are both celiac. My wedding coordinator was happy to have them and was able to tell the chef about our requirements without any problems. We're just hoping that it all works out and I'm thinking of taking a box of gluten free cake mix with me just in case!
