Today was a rough day…

Wow that is pretty heavy, so sorry to hear it. Is it silly to suggest having an intimate ceremony where your mom is so that she can be a part of your wedding? Even just a spiritual/non-legal union type of thing. Then one day when you feel up to it, you can go have the beach wedding she wants you to have. Hang in there :)

Heather, my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry that you are facing such a difficult time with your mother's cancer.

I agree with starchild that perhaps you should consider doing just a small, quiet ceremony in which your mother can be present. I can sense that your mother being there means a lot to you, as it should, and that is why I think starchild has a great suggestion to you. Brain cancer is an evil thing, nothing a single person should have to face, even with a loved one being affected and not oneself. My uncle lost his battle to the evil only a little over a year ago. My cousin, a daughter of his, chose to rush her wedding in hopes that he could be there...he passed only a week before. I know it was such a struggle for her to go on with the wedding without her father there, as she was quite the "daddy's girl," but I think she realized it was what he would have wanted.

I don't tell you this trying to cause you pain, but to ask you to think about what is of the most importance to you. If it is that of your mom being there, consider the idea starchild brought forth. You can still have the beach wedding at a later date, and I--as I'm sure many--will be praying for you and your family, that your mom beats this and will be at your dream wedding.

Sending lots of love and prayers your way!!!smile03.gifsmile03.gif

Be sure to take care of you throughout this battle.

In the beginning of my wedding planning I was addicted to this site and was on here ALL the time. But when things started to get bad with my mom, I started to visit less. I guess I thought that coming on here would make me sad knowing that my wedding was probably going to be postponed, but now that I came back, I actually feel a little better :) I guess I forgot just how supportive you all are - so thank you so much for all the kind words and thoughts. I definitely appreciate it!! (((Hugs))))

No, it's definitely not silly and it is something we are considering. I know it would really make my mom happy to see us get married.

I'm really sorry to hear about your uncle, and you are right, it is evil and I can't even imagine what your cousin went through with that happening just a week before her wedding. At first there was a part of me that said we shouldn't cancel just yet, and we can just hold on and maybe she'll still be able to make it....but we found out early enough that we were all able to cancel our reservations without losing our deposits. If we waited until the last minute and had to cancel closer to the wedding we may not have been able to get our money back. I think it's just safer this way. I'm sure we'll have our beach ceremony some day...and for now a small cermoney at home might just work out.

Oh Heather! sad.gif so sorry to hear your news. There's no words that can ease the sadness. But I say have a private, intimate, ceremony with your mom. Have the dances, cut a cake, and get great pictures. Hey! It'll help eliminate the paperwork required for your destination wedding!

In the end, you WILL have your destination wedding, and you will feel amazing knowing that you were beside your mum supporting her every step of the way.

Please keep us updated here. It seems funny that we can feel so close to someone just by seeing some of their posts here on the forum.

As you can see, you have many friends thinking of you here.

Thinking of you lots!
