Dress came in- isn't the same as the sample

Recommended Posts

I just had to post because I was so distressed today. I went to pick up my dress today from the bridal shop and it wasn't quite the same as the sample I had tried on. It has flowers on the strap that did not match the flowers on the sample and the threads holding them together (so you don't see the strap) had broken and the flowers looked really sparse. The ladies tried to tell me that it looked the same to them, but I was not convinced. They then said that alterations could fix it. And I guess that is what I will be doing (at a price I am sure- I probably shouldn't have taken it home with a guarantee that it will be fixed) . I just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else. (it feels better not to be alone).

EXCELLENT QUESTION, HOLLY!

IF there are ANY DOUBTS as to what you tried on versus what you ended up getting after the dress you ordered was delivered, referencing the sample you wore would be the BEST way for you to state your case as to why you should not be charged a dime for alterations!!

YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY TO MAKE THE DRESS YOU TRIED ON LOOK LIKE THE ONE THEY DELIVERED TO YOU!!

Period. wink.gif

Amen, sister!!

They ought to give the woman what she ordered, and APOLOGIZE PROFUSELY if what they gave her as HER WEDDING GOWN isn't right!!!

She has every right in the world to be upset -- maybe I'm wrong, but I've been told (and believe) that a woman's wedding gown in *the* single most important, generally most photographed, garment she EVER wears in her lifetime.

They owe her the courtesy of getting it right, and no excuses will do.

I recently had a similar experience. Except they ordered the right dress, completely wrong size. They admitted that they screwed up (they did not admit this easily however) and agreed to pay for the alterations. In the end though, you have to make sure that you are happy with the dress and if not, either make them fix it or order you the right one.

Don't let them get away with anything on this one! If it is not the same as the sample, they need to either get you one that IS the one you ordered or fix the strap on the current one (at their own cost I might add!) to look just like the one you fell in love with in the first place. Don't worry about seeing like a Bridezilla or anything like that either. You deserve to get what you ordered! If you are a size 2 and they ordered a size 12, they would have to fix that mistake right??

I agree with C on this seriously you shouldnt have to pay for crap when they were the ones that screwed up. Plus matter of fact you shouldn't have to keep the damn thing if its the wrong dress either. They should be responsible and order the right dress or give you exactly what you ordered at no cost!

Thanks for the support. the differences really are minor and I think some of the problem happened in shipping where stitching came loose and made it look different. They showed me the sample I tried on and there were some differences, but I didn't want to be a bridezilla so I just agreed that alterations could fix it (only problem is I don't plan on going there for alterations). I need to get some other things on the dress altered anyway so I will ask the tailor to work on the flowers as well. I think I was just freaking out a bit because I wasn't expecting it. I really appreciate the support and am trying to calm down and not let it get to me. Thanks everyone.
