You've all inspired me to go again! I have been going to vinyasa, astanga, and hatha classes for quite awhile and I've only tried bikram a few times. The only negative thing I ever hear about is from some yogis because they preach how yoga is supposed to be a mental art and you are not supposed to be in competition with yourself or anyone else in the room; also, it's supposed to be a practice that everyone can share and enjoy. However, bikram not only can push you beyond your limits, but it's actually named after a guy :) Not exactly the "ommm shanti" feeling that some studios give off. Nonetheless, it is a helluva workout!

If you have some qualms about Bikram, check out Moksha. From what I understand, they broke off from Bikram for similar reasons.

Thanks Renee. I think I'll check that out. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably get my share of Bikram as well, but it's also refreshing to see another practice that combines the best of both worlds!

I've been going to a bikrim studio for about 3 months and I love it. I tried out the Moksha over the break and didn't love it. I guess I'm just too dedicated to Bikrim!

I definitely find as well that I eat drink tons of water during the day when I go so I don't feel dizzy and gross during class, and about an hour before I have a protein bar, and afterward I have an orange usually and that's it! So even that alone is probably cutting like 400 calories out of my daily eating. Plus the 90 mins of sweating and stretching has to be doing something. All the people in the class I go to are ridiculously fit and I see them there a lot so it must do something!

I am completely yoga-ignorant, but a friend from work and I just started doing this a few weeks ago. I gotta say I didn't think I'd like it very much because it's the complete opposite of every other sport/activity I do (hockey, karate, boxing, kickboxing, golf, ball...) However, I'm addicted!! I've got a few lingering sports injuries that have left me chronically sore and terribly(sp?) NOT flexible. Now that I've been going once/twice a week, my joints feel a bit stronger and my muscles aren't nearly as tight after all the other sports. Not sure if I would enjoy other yogas as much though. I love the heat and the sweat!!
