Has anyone been there? Are you booked there? We have a reservation for the 31st of July, 2010. But, we aren't sure if we want to go there still. Let me know anything you know about this resort please. I wonder if hurricanes will be an issue this time of year too.

Thanks Jennifer. Our hesitation is related to a couple of things: we aren't sure about the hurricane season...ie., how risky is it at the end of July?; in some Youtube videos the resort look kind of cheesy (for example there's a water wheel in the wall of one of the restaraunts); and do you think they will be impacted by the refugees from the Haiti earthquake?

My fiance has been researching alternate locations all week and all day today. He is pretty into the idea of Maui right now for sake of the beauty minus all of the aforementioned risks. If you could help assuade us I would really appreciate it becuase I am at the point where I would almost just rather stick with what we've already reserved and told people about, but don't want to make a major mistake with timing and class. In terms of class, I just mean that we would really prefer that it's intimate and special and easy.

Sorry for the delay- the forum has been acting strange for me since we did an update!

July is hurricane season but typically it is not at all bad- more into the fall is when there are typically more storms! Plus even in the Pacific there are storms!

The resort is not at all cheesy- there are designed restaurants but nothing over the top. The grounds are very well manicured and have a park like setting and the pools are large and clean! The beach is fantastic and goes on for a good couple of miles.

I can not see Hitian refugees going to the Whitehouse area of Jamaica-it is secluded and the village there is a small fishing village- it can only support the people who live there. To get to Whitehouse you go through the mountains-again not an area where you would relocate a large group of people.

Whoa...thanks for the warning! I like the sounds of things otherwise Jennifer. At this point, I only want to change our location if we could find something close to, but nicer or a little less cheesy. The Grand Bahamian and the other Sandals with the private island look nice...as does the Royal Palmanian in Jamaica. Oh decisions.

Royal Planatation is very upscale-it also has an amazing villa on property that you can stay at. I loved it when I was there in the fall.

I am actually going to Sandals Emerald Bay in a couple of weeks so I can report back on that property although from all that I have seen and read it will also be very upscale.

What you really need to do is work with a Sandals specialist to find the perfect one for what you are looking for. Each one offers such different ambiances.
