Before I answer your question, I have to say that the fourth pic on your site where you're both pulling the leaves around you is my FAVOURITE! It's absolutely beautiful, and you definitely made a stunning bride :)

Now, back to the question of the day (or yesterday, as it were), I've actually been really considering this, but I have my doubts, which is why I haven't gone through with it. I'm actually 150 lbs overweight, and my BMI is 45.9. However, with that said, I carry my weight very differently and my doctor thinks I'm crazy because I only look like I'm about 50-75 lbs overweight. I also don't have any health problems at all (aside from low iron, but that's not a weight issue, it's a bleeding-to-death-every-month issue). So because there aren't any directly-related health problems, simply self-esteem problems, he thinks it's not worth the risk. And FI simply shakes his head when I mention my weight, 50% because he's probably sick of hearing it, and 50% because he loves me exactly as I am. He doesn't think the risk is worth it either...

But I'm so desperate to change my body, I've been this size as long as I can remember, that I'm willing to do anything at this point, I don't care what it costs... So I'm glad that you asked this question Lisa, because I'm interested in reading the responses to see if it's really worth it.

I just wanted to mention that I am not considering major surgery. Although I do have alot of weight to lose, I am healthy. It's a hot topic and I just wanted to put it out there. It's so interesting to read everybody' stories. I too, met a guy that I worked with for a short while who had gastric bypass surgery done. Sure he had lost a bunch of weight, but what is he shoving into his mouth - doughnuts!! Seriously dude, you'll just gain it all back doing that!!

Denise - we should chat! I have lots of weight to lose as well, it would be interesting to talk to someone in the same boat as me!

I just also wanted to say thank you to everyone who made such wonderful comments about my wedding pics. It warms my heart! love.gif

BUT, i will never do any of the procedures like lapband or gastric bypass because they do not fix your HEAD, and *that* is where my problem lies, lol. they wouldn't work for me because they operate on the premise that you won't continue to eat things that make you SICK or eat beyond the point of feeling full (which should happen quickly with your newly minimized stomach capacity). i can't tell you how often i have eaten well beyond being full or feeling ill. overeating is a serious problem and for me, it's mental. no physical surgery can fix that.

however, my girlfriend at work got her gastric bypass surgery done in puerto vallarta almost two years ago, looks absolutely amazing, and i'm definitely jealous.

something else to consider: the divorce rate for people who have undergone radical weight-altering surgery is many times higher than for those who have not.

I completely agree - My problem is more psychological, I use food for comfort so no matter if I had surgery or not I'm sure I would gain the weight back and probably more than I had lost in the first place. I know that I need to make a lifestyle change to get healthy rather than strictly to lose weight.. I know that in order to live a longer/healthier life I should probably start dropping the pounds, but even still I can't motivate myself to go to the Gym. As a kid it wasn't like I was overweight, I was always the chubby girl with a pretty face.. it's only been in the past few years that I've really been unhappy with my size and have really put on the pounds... yet I do nothing to change the situation. UGH!

I think it would be great to talk to someone in the same boat, because everyone else I talk to is worrying about 10 lbs lol I just need something that actually works, because so far nothing has. I was even on a completely vegetarian diet for two years, no soda, no chips, no chocolate, just veggies and grains basically, and lost about 5 lbs. Sad... lol

I forgot to add before, another reason why I'm iffy on surgery aside from the risks of the surgery itself, generally you lose the weight faster than normal after surgery, and then you're left skinny, but naked you look like one of those wrinkly dogs! lol Not sure that's much better...

hahahahha a wrinkly dog! i'm dying here ... yeah not much better at all!

i don't know whether i have more or less to lose than you, but i can guarantee that i am not worried about 10 lbs. i am about 100 lbs overweight (technically, at least i'm 100 lbs more than what i graduated h.s. at). however i would look amazing imo losing around 80.

kymkymkym - I noticed a comment you said.. "was always the chubby girl with the pretty face" OMG in the same boat as you.. every time I talk about losing weight people tell me "but you're so pretty... " SO huh.gif Imagine what I'd look like if I was 150 pounds!

I also need a good swift kick in the butt. No motivation at all these days.. it's to get to the gym the problem, once I'm there everything is fine. My workout buddy moved away a few years ago and we'd go to the gym all the time but since she's gone I've gone downhill.

What motivates you guys? Any tips!!?

I've got a bit more to lose than you. My doctor thinks that a healthy weight for me would be 130. But at 5' 10", with broad shoulders and a size 11 foot, I'm thinking 130 is COMPLETELY ridiculous lol I'm thinking if I lost 100lbs I'd look and feel much better :) But 10 lbs? Psh. I can gain and lose that in a week lol
