Hi and yes I saw your photos and they were helpful. I am just trying to get a 360 degree idea of what the restaurant is like. I like the idea of having the dancing on the beach, but I think i may want to do what you're doing and have the dancefloor around where we eat. I'm just hoping that they can do that with 80 or more people. I don't really wanna do one side eating, one side dancing bcz i want everyone to be together ya know?

I have to say, I had my first "phone meeting" with Nicole last weekend. It went well and she reassured me of a lot of things. I can't seem to get a response from her over email and it is definately frustrating.

I know what you mean, we thought about using one side for dancing too, but yeah then the people who aren't dancing can't see what's going on on the other terrace so that would separate people too much. I wish they would just knock down the walls between the 2 terraces to make it one big terrace, lol.

I agree...why is the wall even there!! lol it complicates things :)

what time are you getting married? I was going to do a 5pm ceremony. I want time to take pics afterwards, but I also want to enjoy part of the day with friends and family and i want the guests to enjoy almost a full day too. I think around may the sun starts to set at 6:30ish.

We're planning to start the ceremony at 4pm. My family and friends are notoriously late so it may not really start until a little later than that, so we figured this way we'll be done before 5 and have an hour to take pictures. We're planning to do a cocktail hour from 5-6 while we're taking pictures and then start the reception at 6:30.

i'm having my ceremony at 4pm. from what i understand the sun goes down just after 5pm so i want to be able to get photos in full sun and at sunset. not sure about the cocktail hour yet, just another added expense that i'm not sure if i want. so my thing is now to figure out what to do with my guests in the 2 hours between the ceremony and the reception!

I read that the sun set later...it was on this website.

Sunrise and Sunset for Jamaica – Kingston – May 2010

For your wedding in January, it may set earlier.

As for the 2 hrs for your guests to kill...if you are not going to have a cocktail reception, i suggest you invite them all to have a cocktail at one of the bars. This way they can all be together and it's like a cocktail reception. just a thought.

that's a good idea. the other thing i thought of doing was having a cocktail reception and then just eating at one of their a la cartes with everybody else...but i think a private reception will be a lot more appreciated by everyone, including myself!

I just got married at the IRHS on January 18th and wanted to throw in my two cents about how to fill the time between wedding and reception. My advice is don't bother paying for a cocktail hour. What my group did was just converge on a bar or lounge in the hotel. Usually between 4:00 and 7:00 the bars on the resort are a ghost town as people are having their afternoon naps or getting ready for dinner. After my wedding (which was at 4:00) we took pictures on the beach until around 5:30 and then the whole group met at the Lobby Bar for drinks until our dinner reservation at the Gourmet restaurant at 6:30.

Also, I don't really recommend renting out one of the restaurants for a private dinner. You will find that the restaurants are pretty empty (due to their practice of staggered reservations). We didn't even notice that other people were there. For speeches we decided to just converge on mass again and set up shop outside by the pools to enjoy the beautiful Jamaican evening. You end up saving a ton of money by just creating your own party wherever you go. And it's an all-inclusive resort, why pay extra to have someone serve you cocktails when you can get them for free?
