Cdn Brides - where to get the documents done

Hello to all of the Cdn brides getting married in the Dominican. We are having the wedding in April 2010 and are thinking about getting the legal documentation arranged at the end of January. Where are you thinking of sending the information to be translated.

For those who have already done it, who did you use and approximately how much did it cost.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I got it done at the Dominican Embassy here in Ottawa. It costs $360 USD

$100 to legalize the single status affidavit (one for you, one for your DH)

$40 to translate each document (2 birth certificates and 2 single status affidavit)

You can always opt to get the documents translated by a certified translator but the Canadian dollar right now is pretty good so it will maybe cost you $50 less not to do it through the Embassy. The documents are good 3 months following legalization.

is that all that is needed in order to get married? We have never been married before so don't need to figure out divorce papers and that none sense....it's not too bad actually!!!

No - they don't require your wedding party to have their documents translated. They may however ask for a regular photocopy of the picture page of their passports if they will be the ones to witness (sign the register) at your wedding. Also, I saw that you mentioned that you are having family as your BM and MOH; just so you know, your official wittnesses cannot be related to you! So you will have to find other people to act and sign as your witnesses. I used WEDO in the states.

1. get your english version of your single status affidavit (SSA) notarized by a lawyer.

2. Send to WEDO:

original SSA

photocopy of SSA

PHOTOCOPY (or two) of birth certificate & Passport. NOT the originals

They will send the documents to the Embassy where they will LEGALIZE the translated version of the SSA, and stamp all other copies of the documents.

Fax a copy to your resort about a month before you arrive

WEDO will mail you all the documents back (including what you sent them)

BRING ALL DOCUMENTS WITH YOU TO THE RESORT.

I'm from Canada, did this with WEDO, got married October 22/09 at the Majestic Colonial, and everything was fine. I paid the $300 US (Which was about the same with the exchange)

I think family can be your witnesses as long as they don't have the same last name....

Thank you so much for this info. I'm in burlington. I'm getting married in April and am so lost in this. My WC sent me the wedo info. I still can't decide what is easiest and best. Where do you get all these documents? like the single status affidavit to sign? I'm getting alot of heat from my fiance because he thought it was easier to get married here first. I thought if everyone was paying to come down and see a wedding I want to have it official. Its just all confusing lol
