Difference between Gran Bahia Principe Coba/Tulum/Akumal?

Recommended Posts

Hello brides/brides to be!

I'm very new to this forum and is already impressed with how everyone being so helpful and supportive!

I'm planning on a symbolic wedding in GB and is having a hard time figuring out the difference between the three resorts. Can any please give me a little info?

I found out each resort do their own wedding ceremony, I'll be very appreciated if anyone can share with me their experience on the particular resort.

Thanks a ton!!

Hi Scarlett,

I am also planning a wedding at GB in Mayan Riviera, we are going in July. In terms of weddings, I think the difference b/w the resorts is choices for ceremony locations and restaraunts/reception locations. There is a thread on this resort (if you just search Bahia Principe) with TONS of information from brides that are going there or have been there. They seem are super friendly and helpful and I'm sure could help you with any questions that you may have. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, I'm still learning myself!

Welcome! Tulum and Akumal are located along the beach and Coba is set back from Akumal away from the beach. I have been to Coba 5 times and just came back from Tulum a couple of weeks ago. I am getting married February 25th at the Akumal hammock location but I am staying at Coba. It is the newest of the three resorts and has all junior suites. Tulum and Akumal have standard rooms (no sitting area). There's lots of info on this site but if you have some specific questions, I can try to help. We love this resort...it will be a lovely place for you to get married. Congrats!

Hola!

Like the other posters have mentioned, the biggest difference is their location and proximity to the ocean and the ceremony locations.

Tulum is where you'll want to stay if you want the gazebo and Akumal seems to have a better beach location. Coba uses the Tulum and Akumal locations, however if a wedding is already scheduled on your day you'll get second choice.

As for the actual resorts, Tulum is the oldest. It is all normal rooms. However it is right on the water and the odds of getting an ocean view are very good.

Akumal is next. PART of it is on the water and that would be the club golden section (and a few random normal rooms). The club golden section is where i stayed for my wedding and those are suites with sitting areas (plenty of room for getting ready... I have pictures if you need to see them).

Coba is the newest. it is all suites, however it is a 5-15 minute walk to the beach depending on where your room is located.

If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know, otherwise check out the GBP thread. You'll find hundreds of posts! :)

Thanks very much for the info, I have a better idea now! So I was under the impression that we can only get married at the resort where we stay, so that's not the case?

That is the case, with the exception of the Coba resort. If you stay at the Coba resort you are allowed to get married at the Tulum or Akumal locations, however you are given second priority.
