Sounds like you are off to a great start! I am from Colorado and have lived in the midwest and southern states here and there. So my take on Thanksgiving dinner is:

Turkey

Stuffing

Mashed Potatoes & Gravy

Green Bean Casserole (Greenbeans, cream of mushroom soup & French Fried onions)

Sweet Potatoes or Yams (Cook with brown sugar & pineapple and brown a layer of marshmallows on tops when done)

Dinner Rolls

Pumpkin Pie

Pecan Pie

Apple Pie

Homemade whip cream!

Hope this helps! :) Good luck!

Ususally pumpkin pie is a must, at least in our family! We do Pumpkin and a fruit pie like Apple or peach. Some families do Yams but we don't so I guess that is all about what you like and don't like. We usually do a green bean cassarole with the little onion crunchies on the top.

Some families have dishes that are just tradition in their families that get made, we have a jello dish called Mt. Dew Salad that we always make.

Sounds like you have a perfect list already! I'm sure you will do great! I don't think you can really go wrong with anything!

Good Luck!

2 cans cream of mushroom soup

2 cans green beans- fancy french cut

2 can green beans- regular cut

2 tsp soy sauce

1/4 cup milk

salt and pepper to taste

1/2 large can french's fried onions (1/2 on the edges before baking, 1/2 all over the top before serving)

mix green beans, soup, milk, soy sauce, s&p together in pyrex or corning wear dish, sprinkle fried onions around the outer edges. bake on 325 degrees Fahrenheit, for about 30 min, sprinkle remaining fried onions on top before serving. :)

Here is the official recipe... which i started out with years ago.

But i like mine better :) its been tweaked to perfection! wink.gif but you can kind of play with it till its perfect for you.

my version doesnt look like the website picture, my green beans end up much more soft and less green after baking. i dont think the picture version has actually been baked yet!

I think your menu sounds great. We also always have pecan pie and sweet potato casserole.

Sweet Potato Casserole

Mash up sweet potatoes (usually just the ones from the can)

Mix in brown sugar and butter

Top with marshmellows

Bake on 350 until the marshmellows are lightly browned on top

Sweet Potatoe Casserole with Pineapple

6 boiled & mashed sweet potatoes

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 can crushed pineapple

1/4 cup margarine

Directions:

Boil potatoes with skins on. Peel & mash potatoes.

Combine pineapple, margarine, & brown sugar. Cook over medium heat , stirring constantly until mixture boils for 1 minute. Reserve enough of the mixture to cover top of casserole.

Combine the remainder of the mixture with the mashed sweet potatoes. Cover & bake at 325 F for 35 minutes. Take out and top with a layer of marshmallows. Return to oven for 5 minutes or just long enough to brown the marshmallows on top.

Serve! This is my mom's recipe and a long standing tradition!
