Thanks Karen - I have now found my idea! Did you buy the tiles yet and write on the backs of them? I am just curious what you are using to write on them with. I am not going to do a table number, I'm going to have 5 designs for the 5 tables and you find the table with your tile design in the middle. I will need little holders for that.

I might do ribbon with a name card through it b/c I want the pretty side of the tile showing at the place card table!

Hi Amy, great! I know, I love the tiles idea, they're so pretty! And I like your idea of doing a pattern per table.
We bought like 6 or 8 sample tiles from 2 companies (the 4-1/4" size) to see which we liked better and will probably end up using all of them, but I really liked the ones from Tiles & Tiles better. Plus they had really good customer service. The samples came with the style # written on the back but I want mine plain so we've emailed back & forth & they were really responsive (& they'll come plain). Plus they included a couple extra tiles for free which were beautiful! Really nice people!

I haven't ordered the rest of the tiles or the #'d tiles b/c we don't have most of our responses in yet. And I haven't tried to write on the backs yet. I need to buy some terracotta colored paint to cover up the marker on the backs & give it a try. I'm still not sure what we'll use - I was thinking of a calligraphy marker (has slanted edges on the tip to make writing look nicer but it's thicker than a pen).

We want to find some kind of small easels to hold the tiles on the tables up - maybe something like one of these
Plate Easels - Solid Brass Verdi Gris
Gold Plate Display Easel Size: 2-1/4"w x 5"d x 4"h - Stands and Easels - Decorative Plates and Bowls - Factory Direct Craft Supply
this site has a ton
Metal table top easels in gold, silver, copper, brass, iron and pewter.

Thanks. I will have to take them to the arts & crafts store and find a paint pen that will write on them. I am having a small wedding so the names will be first names only! I thought it'd be more intimate that way!

I made on power point picture card that were 6*8 and then mounted them on purple cardstock (that was my color) I named each of our 8 tables after a place that Marc and I have been together - we love to travel. I then took one of our favorite pics from each location and wrote a little blurb. it looked awesome and everyone was going table to table reading and mingling. if you need more help i'm willing to send you some ideas.

For our "escort cards" we're doing drink umbrellas in a sandbox (got the idea from Martha Stewart):

We're doing a little something different for our table numbers though. We wanted to have a fun kissing game so if people want to us to kiss they have to take a shot (our friends and family are big partiers lol).

Our table numbers are going to be stainless steel cocktail shakers. One the front they will have a sticker with the table number on it and on the back they're going to have the following cheesy saying: "If you want the bride and groom to kiss you must take a shot of this!".

I already have the shakers but I haven't figured out how to make the stickers yet so I'll post pics when I finish them.

great ideas! in mexico we won't be having table numbers as we'll all be sitting on one long rectangular table...but we are having place cards. for our AHR, we wanted our table numbers to be famous quotes that include essentials you need for marriage (understanding, compromise, laughter, etc.)

happy planning!
